Registrations have been extended for our in person training session this 16 Days of Activism! 👀

Join WDV on International Day of Persons with Disabilities to learn about how gender and disability inequality drives violence, and how you can prevent it. Designed for practitioners in the social and community services sectors, this in person training session is co-facilitated by the Gender & Disability Experts by Experience Advocates, a group of women and gender diverse people with lived experience of disability.

It will be held on Wednesday the 3rd of December at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre from 10:00AM to 11:30AM. The training will be followed by a light morning tea as an opportunity to connect with sector colleagues and continue conversations around challenging ableism, advancing gender equity, and building a culture of inclusion and respect.

The deadline to register for this session has been extended and is now closing on Tuesday the 25th of November. Don’t miss out! 📣

Everyone deserves to live safely, authentically, and with dignity. 🏳️‍⚧

In light of Transgender Awareness Week, and as part of WDV’s ‘Preventing Violence Against LGBTIQA+ People with Disabilities’ project, we’ve developed a new fact sheet exploring the intersection of gender, disability, and LGBTIQA+ identities. WDV acknowledges the resilience and strength of people within the trans community whilst equally condemning the transphobia the community experiences. Many people with disabilities are part of the trans community, and WDV stands with you.

This resource highlights key statistics on violence and the complexity of intersectionality — empowering policymakers, service providers, educators and community members to take meaningful action toward equality and inclusion.

You can view the fact sheet on the WDV website, in both PDF and Word format, here: https://www.wdv.org.au/publications-resources/wdv-fact-sheets

Image description: A social media tile with a sandy coloured background. The WDV logo is positioned in the top right hand corner and beneath that is bold purple text that reads: “Everyone deserves to live safely, authentically, and with dignity”. There is a PNG megaphone graphic positioned to the left of this text and at the bottom of the tile, a woman or gender diverse person is placed, with a PNG graphic of various purple and orange flowers behind them. There are smaller paragraphs that read: “Among LGBTIQA+ people with disabilities, trans people with disabilities are more likely to experience physical violence, intimate partner violence and sexual assault. Centering the lived experiences of trans people with disabilities is essential when creating and implementing targeted policies and interventions that address ableism and transphobia to improve safety, wellbeing and inclusion”.

A moment to celebrate the launch of the Inquiry into Women's Pain Report. Congratulations to the Victorian Government for making a space for Victorian women to tell their story of being in pain and seeking support.

When it comes to disability, what did the report find?
• Women with disabilities are more likely to experience pain than women without disabilities,
• We experience more pain
• and are less likely to receive appropriate pain care and support.
• It is similar story to the experiences of First Nations, migrant and refugee women.

As Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said, the change starts today.

Women with Disabilities Victoria and women and gender diverse people with disabilities with lived experience of pain are an important part of that change process.

What Were You Wearing (WWYW) Australia (an Indigenous and Youth Led organisation) is hosting a month-long campaign called ‘Move for Them’ which is all about moving in memory of the women killed by gender-based violence, whilst raising funds to support survivors of domestic, family, and sexual violence.

The efforts of the month culminate on Saturday the 15th of November, when people across Australia are encouraged to collectively walk, run or in some other way to get involved! 👟

National Move for Them Day is a volunteer-led event in Bendigo, at Lake Neangar, Eaglehawk. Held from 10:00am, the event will consist of workshops and activities, as well as a collective run/jog around the lake. There will be access to facilities like the Outdoor Gym, McKern Skatepark and Eaglehawk Playspace, as well as local food vans and stalls in attendance.

Volunteers to assist on the day are welcome, and encouraged, to join!

The event has a pay-as-you-wish ticketing system. You can learn more, and register your attendance, here: https://events.humanitix.com/copy-of-copy-of-move-for-them-bendigo
