Victoria has led the nation in health promotion, and WDV is grateful for the Victorian government’s support. Nonetheless, we are deeply concerned by the Victorian Government’s decision to abolish VicHealth as a standalone entity and absorb its functions into the Department of Health.

Now is not the time to step away from a strategy that works.

More than ever, we must confront hatred and discrimination and protect the health and well-being of all Victorians. WDV, as part of the Women’s Health Services Network, has issued a media release calling for this decision to be reconsidered.

You can read the full statement here: www.whsn.org.au/media-releases/vichealth

In addition, we encourage our partners, followers and other stakeholders to join the call to save VicHealth by signing and sharing this petition: www.change.org/p/keep-vichealth-independent-and-strong-for-a-healthier-future-savevichealth

Image description: Purple social media tile with yellow text that reads: “Victorian Women’s Health Services, including WDV, make a collective call for an ongoing commitment to evidence-based health promotion and primary prevention” and a white PNG graphic of a megaphone below that. The white WDV logo sits in the top right corner.

Tile1 : 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This year’s theme is “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”. But what do we mean by ‘digital violence’?
Tile 2: “Digital violence is abuse that occurs through technologies and online platforms such as phones, computers or social media. Here are some terms to help us better understand how violence is performed against someone, or experienced in digital spaces. These types of violence can be committed by strangers and by people we know. The impacts of digital violence are equally as important as violence that occurs in person.” Includes graphics of an open laptop and mobile phone in deep purple.

Everyone deserves safety, respect and autonomy — yet, for many women and gender diverse people with disabilities, these rights are still denied. They continue to face disproportionate discrimination, violence and abuse.

As a part of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign in 2024, WDV partnered with Respect Victoria to create a video campaign to challenge stereotypes and elevate lived expertise of women and gender diverse people with disabilities.

This year, we are happy to share our new case study emphasising the importance of partnership and ongoing consultation with people who have lived experience — because real change begins when we listen, learn and act. 🌟

WDV’s Acting CEO, Julie Kun, says about the Treaty:

“Women with Disabilities Victoria stands firmly in support of the Victorian Treaty as a crucial step towards justice and self-determination for the First Peoples of Victoria. Now is the time to take decisive action to acknowledge sovereignty and ensure a future for all Victorians that is grounded in truth, respect and fairness.”

The First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria is holding a Treaty celebration on the evening of Friday the 12th of December at Federation Square. For more information about the upcoming event, and the Treaty itself, visit: https://firstpeoplesvic.org 🖤💛❤️

‘Bridging the Gender Pain Gap’ was created to inform improved model of care and service delivery for Victorian women experiencing pain and living with pain conditions.

In our response to this report, WDV acknowledged the overrepresentation of women and girls with disabilities living with pain and provided opportunities and recommendations as to how the government can actively address and work to reduce the gender pain gap.

To be successful, WDV believes this work must be led by women and gender diverse people with disabilities living with pain. 🤝

You can read the full response on the WDV website here: www.wdv.org.au/our-work/our-work-with-government/submissions-2

Image description: A social media tile with a sandy coloured background. The WDV logo is positioned in the top right corner and below it is title text in bold, purple font that reads: “WDV Responds To: Women’s Pain Inquiry Report”. Underneath that is a paragraph with smaller purple text that says: “We have responded to the publication of the Victorian Government’s Inquiry into Women’s Pain Report: 'Bridging the Gender Pain Gap'” and below that, in the bottom right corner, is a PNG graphic of two overlapping magnifying glasses. The smaller of the pair is orange and the larger one is a light purple.
