Please be aware that there is a possible scam targeting people registered with the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).

A person registered with the NDSS received a call from someone asking if they had an NDSS card. When she replied “yes,” the caller informed her that she needed to pay a $150 lump sum or $25 per month to continue her membership.

If you receive a similar call please hang up and do not give out any personal information.

The NDSS is an initiative of the Australian Government administered with the assistance of Diabetes Australia, and is free for all eligible individuals.

Over the counter codeine containing analgesic medicines (eg Nurofen Plus, Panadeine) will require a prescription from February 1st.

The Pharmacy Guild that represents pharmacy owners has proposed to state governments that there should be exceptions to allow over the counter access without a prescription (eg for acute and short term pain such as tension headache and period pain) with mandatory real time monitoring of sales of these medicines.

We applaud the NSW deputy premier Mr John Barilaro for supporting Pharmacists’s concern for the inconvenience making codeine products prescription only without necessarily solving the drug misuse or abuse concern.
