šŸ¤ Lending a Hand: Prompting in Everyday Life

From tying shoes to rolling dough, offering a helping hand is one of the most natural ways we teach and connect. Yet in the field of autism, the idea of physical guidance often sparks debate.

Join Andy Bondy, PhD and Lori Frost, MS, CCC-SLP — the developers of PECSĀ® — for a thoughtful, 30-minute discussion on what it really means to ā€œlend a hand.ā€ šŸ’¬

This free webinar explores:
✨ Why guidance and support are essential parts of learning
✨ How cultural context and safety shape our teaching choices
✨ The difference between helping to teach and physical restraint

With summer coming up in a few short months, it pays to be prepared for fire season. Pyramid Educational Consultants and the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation (AARBF) are proud to share a new collaborative resource designed to support early learners and individuals with communication challenges.

This year’s USA National Fire Protection Association theme for fire prevention week, ā€œCharge into Fire Safetyā„¢: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,ā€ highlights the importance of using and charging batteries safely. We’ve adapted this message through the FISE (Firefighters In Safety Education) lesson ā€œToys vs. Tools,ā€ helping children and non-speaking individuals learn the difference between what’s safe to play with and what’s not.

Our new ā€œWhat is a Toy?ā€ infographic uses simple visuals to teach that items like lighters, batteries, and chargers are tools—not toys—and should never be touched without an adult. By teaching these safety concepts early, we can empower learners to recognize danger and make safe choices.

Fire Safety Education is the first line of defense against fire-related injuries and fatalities. Explore our full NICK Fire & Burn Safety resources, developed for individuals on the autism spectrum, those with developmental disabilities, communication challenges, and preschool-aged children.

Visit pecs.com and aarbf.org to learn more!
Thank you to Dr. Amanda Kelly @ for helping us share these important fire safety messages ā¤ļø

Pyramid Educational Consultants

At Pyramid, it is our goal to help individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, and/or communication challenges learn to shape their own lives and participate in the world around them. Using a blend of broad spectrum applied behaviour analysis and practices supported by research and positive results, we give learners the skills to tell you what they want, what they need, what they see, and the unique educational environments they need to learn and grow towards greater independence.

The company was founded in 1992 by Andy Bondy, PhD., and Lori Frost, MS, CCC-SLP, developers of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and the Pyramid Approach to Education. They developed these practices with a focus on functional communication, learning, and designing teaching strategies to support learners in their everyday environments and activities. As the company expanded across the United States and into other countries, more and more learners of all ages, along with their families, teachers, and support teams, benefited and continue to benefit from PECS and the Pyramid Approach.

Our team now spans the globe and is made up of professionals from a variety of backgrounds who share a passion for giving people of all ages the skills that will help them navigate their lives in the present and in the future. We provide training in a wide range of topics, including PECS, the Pyramid Approach to Education, communication, and behaviour. We offer consultation in home, school, work and community settings, to help you and your team figure out what strategies will best suit your learner. If you have questions or want to connect with others experiencing similar challenges, you can join our online community. We also offer a selection of products designed for use with PECS and for assisting learners in the classroom, community and throughout their daily lives. You can check out our videos demonstrating our products and we’re always happy to help as you choose which materials will work best for you.

We know you are dedicated to helping your learner make the best life for him or herself, and we would like to support you in this process.
