Our new report shows just how important camps are to young Australians.

In 2024, Australian camps hosted 3.96 million visits, with 70% coming from schools.

Camps help young people build confidence, friendships and real-world life skills while connecting with nature.

The sector also contributes $1.7 billion to the Australian economy and supports more than 15,000 jobs.

These findings highlight the vital role camps play in childhood, education and communities across Australia.

This morning we held our first Member Morning Tea for the year,
hosted by Stephen and the team at Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre. It was great to be able to speak to some of the projects that ACA has been working on and hear directly from members about the current challenges affecting camps both in the ACT/NSW and the sector more broadly.

We were given a tour of the newly renovated Dome venue at Warrambui including a brand-new commercial kitchen and accommodation, complete with Hypersonic Industries hideaway bunk beds. Increasing capacity when needed.

Today, Dwight was back on the road with Amanda from the Queensland Tourism Industry Council - QTIC, continuing the 3-yearly site inspections for camps holding the QTF Camps and Adventure Activities Accreditation.

We were pleased to visit Kokoda Outdoor Education /Camp Kokoda, operated by the Kokoda Youth Foundation - and members of the Australian Camps Association.

A big thank you to Craig, Maintenance Manager, and Declan, Manager of Outdoor Education, for their time and support throughout the assessment. The site tour was expertly conducted with the enthusiastic assistance of their Camp wonder dog 🐾 — who made sure we didn’t miss a thing!
