Dr Tania Nishimura

Dr Tania Nishimura I am an experienced and caring General Practitioner. Dr Tania Nishimura B Sc, MBBS, FRACGP
I am an experienced and caring GP.

I love General Practice because of it's enormous variety of clinical practice and because of the relationships I develop with patients and their families over the years. My special interests are:
* mental health
* women's health and pregnancy care (including Shared Antenatal Care)
* children's health
* sexual health

In addition to working in private practice, I also work with vulnerable adolescents. I have also worked in the Kimberly in Aboriginal Health Services, and this is work I continue with short term locums when I am able to fit it in. I completed my medical degree at Sydney University and undertook my early years of training there, before completing my training in Broome and then Melbourne. I am a busy mother of three children. I love good food and cheese, architecture and design, travel, hiking, gardening, F45 and the rare opportunity to sleep in.

Millions of Australians are now eligible for covid vaccines. Get immunised now if you are eligible. Covid vaccines are safe and effective. Protect yourself, help reduce the risk of outbreaks and lock downs.
Getting immunised is easy.

I’ve had mine. Shout out to all the staff at the Sunshine hospital immunisation hub. It was organised and efficient.

This information hub provides resources about the COVID-19 vaccines, their development, and how they work.

We all had our fingers crossed for 2020 to behave itself. With the devastating bushfires recently scorching the country, Australia deserved a break. Unfortunately, the coronavirus had other ideas. We’re now in unchartered waters. It’s confusing, it’s scary and, to put it mildly, it’s bloody ...

Are you at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19?

If you are over 70, have high blood pressure, diabetes, lung disease, heart disease or are immunosuppressed, then you are at higher risk.
Please stay home.
If you need a medical review, the safest way for me to see you is via a telephone consultation which can be arranged by calling the clinic.

Stay safe everyone.

In these worrying times, here are some very important messages.

1. If you are unwell (cough or sore throat or fever), please stay home, avoid people.

2. Practice good hygiene.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds (when arriving home, before and after eating or food prep, after touching your face, after going to the bathroom)
- Hand sanitisers are an acceptable alternative to use if not home

3. Practice social distancing
Minimise going to enclosed, crowded public places. Maintain a distance of 1.5m from others. Avoid social gatherings.

4. Doctors of South Melbourne have implemented new procedures. If you are unwell, please contact the clinic and our staff who will explain our arrangements for your assessment and care, in a way that ensures the safety of our patients and our staff.

Stay well everyone. Wash your hands. Stay home.

Wishing every one a safe and happy holiday season.
However, for many people it is a difficult time.
This is a wonderful article about how difficult this time of year can be for those with or recovering from eating disorders.

What began as a fairly innocuous desire to adopt healthier routines became obsessive over the following months.

Here’s the latest Doctors of South Melbourne blog post about the time we took two preschoolers trekking in Nepal (with a side of travel medicine information).

Around eight years ago, I had the idea that we trek the Ghorepani Ghandruk circuit in Nepal with our boys, two and four years old.Some (most) said I was mad. Luckily my adventurous husband wasn’t one of them.When the time came to leave, I felt confident my
