What is ‘Bad scarring’ and how can it be treated?
A ‘bad’ scar can result from a variety of factors, including the type of injury, surgical technique, skin type, genetics, and wound care. Dr. Zinn closely monitors scar healing, with check-ups at one week and six weeks post-surgery and more frequent visits if needed.
If a scar is not healing as expected, he may opt for different interventions, such as changing dressings, steroid injections, pressure or silicone dressings, or, in some cases, excising the scar and re-doing the repair. Typically, Dr. Zinn performs scar revisions around six months, or later, after the initial surgery or injury, once the scar has started to organise and mature.
