Hi there 🌿🌿
A question came up recently around being prescribed an anti-anxiety or antidepressant only from Day 10 to Day 21 of the cycle, and I wanted to share some gentle context — not medical advice, just informed support and perspective.
In perimenopause, anxiety and low mood are very often hormonally driven, particularly in the luteal phase. Shifting progesterone, fluctuating oestrogen, cortisol sensitivity, blood sugar changes, and a nervous system under load can all contribute — even for women who have never struggled with anxiety before.
Some medications (particularly certain SSRIs) are sometimes prescribed cyclically, especially when symptoms are very luteal-phase or PMDD-like.
For some women, this approach can help.
For others, starting and stopping can feel unsettling or dysregulating.
What’s important — and often missing — is space for informed choice:
• Understanding why this medication was chosen
• Knowing what it’s targeting
• Exploring whether hormone and nervous system support are also being considered
Perimenopause isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Some women benefit from medication.
Some need hormone support, nervous system care, blood sugar stabilisation, or deeper root-cause work.
Many need a blend.
If something doesn’t quite sit right for you, it’s worth listening.
Your body is communicating — and it deserves care that reflects what it’s actually asking for 🤍
Sending love to every woman navigating this season 🌿🌿🌿
