Being in the room is not the same as being included.

Without the right training, decisions can easily be made around the participant rather than with them. Occupational Therapy training helps carers, families, and support workers develop practical skills to identify meaningful goals, adapt support to the personโ€™s needs, use the least restrictive assistance, and build strategies into everyday life.

Real support is not about taking over. It is about working together so the person remains at the centre of planning, decision-making, and daily participation.

Pressure injuries can start faster than many people realise.
If someone is spending long periods in bed or in a chair, regular repositioning, the right pressure-relieving equipment, and early skin checks can make a real difference.
Save this for later or share it with someone supporting a loved one.

Neuroplasticity is the brainโ€™s ability to reorganise, form new connections, and relearn skills through experience and repetition. This is especially important in neurological conditions such as stroke, brain injury, or Parkinsonโ€™s, where recovery is not always predictable.

As occupational therapists, we use this principle every day by guiding meaningful, goal-based activities that help strengthen new pathways in the brain.
โœ” Rebuilding task-specific skills through repetition - like practising sit-to-stand transfers, upper limb use for dressing, or safe kitchen sequencing after stroke.
โœ” Using graded, meaningful activities to retrain movement patterns, improve coordination, and reduce compensatory habits that can lead to long-term strain or injury.
โœ” Supporting cognitive and physical recovery together - helping with attention, planning, and fatigue management so daily routines become safer and more sustainable.

Recovery doesnโ€™t happen overnight but with the right support, the brain can adapt in powerful ways.

Dementia is more than memory loss. It changes how a person experiences the world. These films offer a deeper understanding of that reality for both individuals and families.

If you or someone you care for may benefit from occupational therapy support, Cas Health can assist with strategies to support safety, function, and quality of life.

NDIS reforms are being discussed ahead of the 2026โ€“27 Federal Budget.
But what does this actually mean for participants, families, and providers?

As changes to funding, planning, and access are introduced, understanding the impact is critical. Weโ€™ve broken down what is confirmed, what is changing, and what to be aware of moving forward.

A simple task like putting on socks is a complex functional activity requiring the integration of postural control, bilateral coordination, motor planning (praxis), sensory processing, and sequencing. Occupational therapy looks beyond the task itself to understand the underlying skills affecting independence.

For some children living with autism, differences in sensory processing and motor planning can significantly impact performance in daily living tasks such as dressing, limiting independence and participation.

In occupational therapy, dressing is approached as a core Activity of Daily Living (ADL). Through task analysis, we identify where breakdown occurs and apply evidence-based strategies such as graded assistance, chaining, and repeated task-specific practice to support skill acquisition.

The goal is not just completing the task, but developing the underlying skills that enable independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in everyday life.
