Who says Valentine’s Day can’t include soft-serve? 🍦💙

Yesterday we brought a little summer sweetness to our community with a Mr Whippy visit - because care is about more than services. It’s about moments. Joy. Shared smiles.

At Accent Home Care and TTHA, we believe love shows up in everyday ways - helping someone stay independent at home, supporting families, and creating opportunities to connect.

More happy snaps coming soon - keep an eye on our socials.

A special Accent Home Care Social Support Group guided outing that truly felt like a treat. Morning tea at the lobby bar on Level 80 at The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne, taking in breath-taking 360-degree views across the city. We then enjoyed the buzz of the annual boat show at Harbour Promenade, followed by a relaxed lunch at the William Angliss Institute training restaurant. A day of connection, conversation and feeling just a little bit special.

Meet Julie 💚

Julie grew up in France, raised closely by her grandparents. That early bond stayed with her and planted the seed for a future working with older people. While completing a hospitality degree, Julie travelled through Australia, Canada and Norway. Australia soon felt like home, and it’s where she met her husband and settled in Melbourne.

Before joining Accent Home Care, Julie worked in hospitality, including five years as a hotel reception manager. Working through COVID often meant managing evening shifts on her own and supporting people through challenging situations. Those years helped shape Julie’s calm approach, problem-solving skills and genuine ability to connect with people.

Julie later worked in employment services, supporting up to 100 job seekers at a time. While rewarding, she was looking for something more secure and meaningful. Aged care had always been in the back of her mind, and Accent Home Care gave her the chance to bring her skills and compassion together.

Julie began as a Care Partner and quickly built strong relationships with her clients. She took time to really know them, not just their care needs, but their families too, and even the best time of day to make a phone call. These small details helped clients feel truly seen and supported.

Like many in the sector, Julie and her colleagues have navigated the challenges of moving from Home Care Packages to Support at Home. Julie meets these changes with patience and empathy, understanding that families are doing their best within changing rules and funding limits.

What Julie believes makes Accent Home Care special is the personal touch. People are never just a number. The team supports one another and always works hard to get the best outcomes for clients.

Julie finds her work deeply rewarding, and kind words from clients mean the world to her. One heartfelt letter from a client named Melisa brought her to tears and reminded her why this work matters so much.

After maternity leave, Julie has recently returned to work three days a week as an Interim Care Partner, with the support of a gradual return to work. Becoming a mum has given Julie a new perspective on life, and she brings care, connection and quiet confidence into everything she does.

We’re so grateful to have Julie as part of the Accent Home Care family 💚

Meet Melissa Gottliebsen – Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) Coordinator 💙

Melissa brings a lifetime of care, experience and strong local knowledge to her role as CHSP Coordinator. She has spent her entire career in healthcare, including 20 years working in the disability sector, before moving into women’s health, physiotherapy and audiology.

Melissa has previously worked as a CHSP Coordinator and loved the role. She enjoys supporting older people, taking the time to listen, and making sure each person feels cared for, understood and respected. Helping people stay independent and supported in their own homes is what motivates her most.

A Bayswater local for more than 35 years, Melissa knows the community well. She is also a proud mum of four and values the importance of strong family and community connections.

At work, Melissa is professional, organised and caring but she also believes that laughter is an important part of a great workplace. Once you get to know her, you’ll quickly see the warmth, humour and positive energy she brings to the team.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys going to the gym and Pilates, helping her stay active and balanced.

We’re very happy to welcome Melissa to the team.

Home care doesn’t mean ‘losing independence’.

Especially over the holiday period, a little extra help can mean:
• fewer worries
• more quality time
• less pressure on family

If you need help at home or been approved for home care but feel unsure, our Accent Home Care (a division of TTHA) free guide explains how flexible support can be.
