In this episode of Knocked Up, Jordi Morrison and Dr Raelia Lew unpack one of the newest breakthroughs in reproductive science: the creation of human egg cells from skin cells. Dr Raelia explains how stem cells work, what makes egg cells unique, and why this research is both exciting and still far from clinical use. Together they explore the science behind the process, the ethical and safety hurdles that must be overcome, and what it could mean for people who can no longer produce eggs naturally. While the potential is extraordinary, Dr Raelia reminds listeners that proven options like egg freezing remain the safest and most effective way to preserve fertility today.

We’re having children later in life than ever before, often this can mean we encounter perimenopause or menopause on the way. What does this mean in terms of our fertility?

In part one of understanding our fertility and peri/menopause, we unpack why fertility becomes more challenging as we approach perimenopause. Dr Raelia explains how shifting hormones, irregular cycles, and declining egg quality combine to make conception more difficult in our 40s. From understanding AMH and ovarian reserve to recognising the impact of age on egg health and miscarriage risk, this conversation explores what’s really happening to fertility in the decade before menopause and the options available for those still hoping to conceive.

Iron isn’t just about energy, it’s about fertility, immunity and whole-body wellness.

Iron deficiency is the most widespread nutrient deficiency in the world, especially among women. Heavy periods, pregnancy, and certain gut conditions can all contribute.

Low iron can cause fatigue, dizziness, hair thinning, and even disrupt ovulation, making
it harder to conceive or carry a healthy pregnancy.

Iron comes in two forms: heme (from animal sources) and non-heme (from plants). Pairing non-heme iron with vitamin C helps your body absorb it better.

While deficiency is common, too much iron can cause harm. Balance is key.

At , we offer personalised iron assessments and iron infusions, guided by WHM’s in
house gastroenterologist Dr Lindy Jackson. If you’re constantly tired or struggling with low iron, we can help.

AMH is now recognised as a marker of PCOS when very elevated.

AMH, in any context, does not stand alone. However in the context of other typical symptoms and signs, AMH adds excellent diagnostic accuracy in the classification of PCOS.

Every result tells a story - the key is understanding yours. If you’re navigating PCOS or irregular cycles, expert support makes all the difference

Acupuncture is a fantastic treatment option to add to your egg freezing cycle as it is believed to encourage blood flow to your ovaries. Blood carries antioxidants and nutrients to your ovaries, therefore, optimising the environment in which the follicles are growing.

Acupuncture also helps manage the negative effects stress plays on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis which ultimately controls ovulation and ovarian stimulation.

Acupuncture can also help minimise any side effects that a woman may experience from her ovaries being stimulated.

Acupuncture after egg pick up is helpful with recovery and post-surgical discomfort.

You can arrange a specialist acupuncture consultation in the lead up to egg freezing with our very own expert Acupuncturist, Mandi Azoulay.
