ā€œFor someone who didn’t speak much English, I picked myself up and went on with things the best way possible,ā€ - Mario

Mario has lived an incredible life. Even though he has long since retired, he still gets immense pleasure out of volunteering with Vision Australia's radio reading service in Shepparton for over twenty years. Each week, he reads the Italian translation of Australian news to help other Italian-speaking listeners stay informed and connected.

We welcome new arrivals to the Tonies family: Introducing the Potty-Training Emoji Tonie, the helpful friend for an important lesson! With pre-recorded educational messages, it uses the power of audio to guide and encourage young ones with their milestone event. We’ve also added the first Tonies 3-pack sets to the range!

Tonies are a screen-free, tactile tool for children who are blind or have low vision. They promote independence through storytelling and sound, making play (and learning) accessible to everyone.

Vision Australia believes people who are blind or have low vision should have the same choice and control around transport options as anyone else.

Today, we were excited to join Skilled Access and at NSW Parliament to launch their Real Access, Real Choice: Why State-Based Taxi Subsidy Schemes Need to be Modernised report, highlighting the need for taxi subsidy schemes to be modernised across Australia and expanded to include rideshare options.

Vision Australia’s own research supports this – nearly 60% of people who are blind or have low vision would use subsidised transport more if these schemes were expanded to rideshare options.

Victoria’s Multi Purpose Taxi Program has long shown this is possible and the benefits it has for people who are blind or have low vision or live with any other disability, and we call on other states and territories to take a provider-neutral approach to expanding their subsidy schemes.

ā€œAdapting is a skill. You can’t expect it to work straight away — you must give yourself room to learn how to use it,ā€- Barbara

While she has lived with vision loss since she was 17 years old, Barbara is always finding new ways to adapt to make the most of what vision she has.
