Run Melbourne 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️⁣

Here are a couple of tips on how to get a PB this weekend at Run Melbourne, no matter the distance! ⁣

1. Ensure easy days of training over the next two days, eliminating any short term fatigue. ⁣
2. Go for a short run either tomorrow or Saturday - think of this as a tune up.⁣
3. Eat food that makes you feel good - eg. if cheese bloats you, stay away from it. ⁣
4. Have a pre race plan - for me that’s get up 2 hours before start time, have 2 pieces of toast, 2L of water and make my way in. Plus a coffee about 30 mins pre race. ⁣
5. For all you half marathoners out there, have one gel or other food item ready for about the 10-12km mark.⁣
6. Remember to drink water along the way to avoid dehydration! ⁣
7. Celebrate your new PB with some good food/a smoothie and more water before you hit any alcohol!⁣

Good luck fellow runners, see you out there!

The Osteo ABC's⁣
S is for : Shin Splints ⁣

Shin splints are a common occurrence among the active population and boy have we treated our share of these in the past. Shin splints (or medial tibial stress syndrome if you want to be fancy) is an irritation to the muscles and bones that run along the inside of your lower leg. ⁣

They commonly occur due to increased stress being placed on them (for example starting back running after not running for a long time) and/or a rapid increase in repetitive type training (example would be recently starting high intensity gym classes). ⁣

The good news is that with quick and effective treatment they are relatively simple to treat! Most commonly we will have some modifications to your activities (e.g. decrease in running and/or jumping), massage, dry needling and joint mobilisation. We may also suggest trying a new pair of shoes (if your current ones have seen better days).⁣

So if you're struggling with lower limb pain, book in with one of our Osteopath's today and we will get you back running and/or training at your full capacity in no time!

The Osteo Joint at MOCO 🎉⁣

Our home has had a bit of a revamp, and we can’t wait for you to see it. MOCO is more than just your ordinary gym or group training facility.⁣

With a combined 25 years in the fitness and health industry, when it comes to exercise and movement, we’ve seen it all. We’ve watched fitness trends come and go. We’ve seen monumental developments in health sciences. We’ve set and achieved our own fitness goals and helped countless clients smash theirs too.⁣

We know that each person who walks through our doors is different. Some have clear goals and targets, others need a little bit of guidance. Some are recovering from major surgery, others have never been to hospital. Some like to stay in their comfort zone, others like to be pushed to the limit. Some have plenty of time to dedicate to exercise, others are squeezing in an hour here or there in between family, work and social commitments.⁣

Book in now for a $14 for 14 day trial and come and join the movement 👊

The Osteo ABC's⁣
R is for : Running Related Injuries⁣

Running related injuries are owner and head osteo Jamey’s personal favourite to treat and help rehab. Being a runner himself, he knows all too well how these can occur and can relate to having suffered from these in the past.⁣

Osteo’s can help with an array of running related injuries including but not limited to joint, ligament, muscle and tendon related pain. ⁣

The most common running related injuries seen at The Osteo Joint are achilles problems/tendinitis and patellofemoral pain. When treating these we typically do some soft tissue manipulation to the related area, joint mobilisation, maybe some dry needling and definitely some activity modification/provide structure to one’s training (including a rehab plan).⁣

So if you’re suffering from a running related injury (long or short term) we can help you. ⁣
Book yourself in now we can get the ball rolling on your recovery 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏽

Vitamin D ☀️ ⁣

With summer here and in full swing, it's important to get outside and make the most of that sunshine to improve those levels of Vitamin D.⁣

Vitamin D is vital for optimising performance as it is pivotal in supporting the immune system and supports cardiovascular and lung function! ⁣

Osteo Jamey's favourite way to get outside is to take his dog for a walk. ⁣
Osteo Jai .keighery enjoys a trail run or hike and Osteo .osteopath loves an ocean swim. What's your favourite way to get outside and soak up them rays? ⁣

Ps. Don’t forget to be sun smart! 🧢 🏖

Regular Osteopathic treatment 🦴 ⁣

Getting regular treatments is something all Osteopaths here at The Osteo Joint do and we recommend you do to. ⁣

Consistent training, long days at work and poor ergonomics (i.e. poor desk posture or long netflix benders) lead to increased stressed placed upon the body. It's only fair to give your body the care it deserves. ⁣

Book in your next appointment now and get those niggles sorted ✨
