Some fantastic tips for you with hay fever from our wonderful Naturopath, Alyce🌱
Sniffly nose, burning eyes, constant sneezing getting you down 😕👎🤧 It's that time of year, the flowers are blooming, pollens and other airborne allergens have been let loose and Hayfever sufferers are cringing and breaking out the Sudafed & Claritin.
Some tips for Hayfever prevention this Spring 🐝👍🍯
INCREASE VITAMIN C : has a anti-histamine effect, supports our immune cells, powerful antioxidant to fight inflammation and irritation and help our bodies respond quick to allergens. Found naturally in our diet, citrus, berries, broccoli, red pepper, kale, brussel sprouts, kiwi fruit etc (Aim for 250-500mg four times a day).
nutrients such as vitamin A, E, Zinc, Quercetin, Bromelain and Fish Oil help reduce inflammation and protect the immune system.
HERBAL MEDICINE : Horseradish works to improve circulation, open up blocked passageways due to its decongestant nature. Garlic is anti-inflammatory and supports immune cells. Others herbs to consider are, Albizzia, Nettle, Baical Skullcap and Ginger.
ELIMINATE DAIRY + WHEAT : they are mucus producing foods and can cause inflammation and trigger an immune response in our bodies.
HYDRATE : Be sure to drink plenty of water, organic herbal teas and fresh juices.
PREVENTATIVE CARE :
Raw local honey such as Heidi Honey Hurstbridge from the Eltham + St Andrews Market (https://beerescue.com.au/heidi-honey-raw-honey/)
Australian Harvest Organic Horseradish Vinegar with Bio-Grape (http://www.australianharvest.com.au/) are both amazing preventatives and should be started several weeks before Hayfever season hits and throughout the season.
Probiotic supplement and fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha etc.
