Not all prosthetic solutions are straight forward- and that’s what makes moments like this so rewarding.

This was a particularly tricky prescription with one clear goal: getting our client on his bike. The real challenge was creating a system where the client could seamlessly transition from riding to walking.

This client had limited range of motion at the knee and needed unrestricted knee flexion to use the pedals on his bike so orthotic knee joints were incorporated into his prosthesis. We used a unilateral locking knee joint and single axis buddy joint to achieve full motion while riding. To ensure the socket didn’t lock out unexpectedly while riding a cable was attached to the locking mechanism and a simple pull trigger was mounted higher up onto the socket. When needing to lock out the knee joint the pull trigger is pushed down to release tension on the locking lever.

This took a whopping 4 laminations to complete but was well worth the effort when we see people ticking off their goals 🚲 ✔️

In partnership with Prosthetic Art Technology, we were able to create beautifully lifelike silicone prosthetic fingers for a client for whom appearance is deeply meaningful. It was a pleasure to provide a new sense of confidence for our patient to actively engage within the community.

This is how we know it’s finals time 🏉
This client fractured his nose last week and wanted to delay surgery until after footy finals. To safely play we have fabricated a custom plastic face mask to protect his nose from further damage. If there is contact to the face the pressure will be distributed throughout his forehead and cheeks where there is direct skin contact.

Finalising a central fabricated AFO today complete with a Triple Action joint. The Triple Action Joint provides this client with a smoother gait by providing a controlled resistance from heel contact through to foot flat and again into dorsiflexion from mid to terminal stance
