Dear residents and representatives,

As we recover from recent rainfall it is lovely to see some blue sky again today.

We remain COVID free at the moment and note that we are busy working to organise COVID and/or Influenza boosters for residents choosing to have them. This is most likely to occur in April. If you or your family are already aware of your preferences please make sure our care team are aware so we can prioritise your needs.

With winter in the foreseeable future it is also timely for family members to help review resident's wardrobe needs to ensure they have enough warm clothes for daily wear and outings in coming months.

We have recently reviewed our Cafe Hours and have made a slight adjustment to opening times to capture customers at the times they visit. The cafe is now open from 9am to 2.30pm weekdays. Jeanie and Courtney have now been joined by the lovely Tamara in the cafe and they are still making excellent coffee, lunches and cakes!

Our old self-serve coffee machine in the cafe has unfortunately been deemed unrepairable and taken away but we have ordered a new machine ordered which will hopefully be delivered within coming weeks. It will again be an automated machine safe for residents, staff and family members to use when the cafe itself is closed.

Please note a small request coming from our residents as feedback. We ask that visitors who wish to have highly personal conversations with residents they are visiting try to do so in the resident's room or any of our quiet lounges on site. Some residents have raised some discomfort at hearing visitors personal matters in shared areas like busy dining rooms and TV lounges and we would like everyone to respect the privacy and dignity of all residents whilst on site.

We are also providing some advanced notice that the next Residents and Representatives meeting on site will be moved to Thursday 9th of April at 10.30am in the DIVA room to avoid conflict with Easter events the week prior. We encourage residents and interested family members to attend.

We are also pleased to advise that the Member for Barker, The Hon. Tony Pasin M.P. Will be visiting us on April 8th at 4.30pm to present us with a new Australian Flag. We are reinstating our flagpole which has been out of service for some years in time to honour our service people at our ANZAC Day services this year. We thank Mr Pasin for his gift of the flag.

Finally, with Easter and school holidays approaching we ask everyone to be extra careful on the roads and make sure you "arrive alive" as the saying goes. Visiting at Boneham will continue as normal across all public holidays for those who have family or friends visiting from outside the region or who wish to share Easter celebrations with a resident.

It was an especially lovely day for 3 of our Boneham team at yesterday's UniSA graduation in Mount Gambier.

Zoe Ashby and Jemma Hayward both graduated with a Bachelors of Nursing and Clare Jolly with a Bachelors in Psychological Science and Sociology. This is the last graduation before the amalgamation of UniSA and Adelaide University adding to how special the moment was.

Well done to all 3 of you, we know how hard it is to balance work, study and life in general. We are all very proud of you at Boneham!

We are pleased to advise that Boneham has appointed Walter Brooke Architects to complete the design and costing of the new 16 bed memory support unit to be built on our Williams Road site.

Walter Brooke have more than 40 years of expertise in the design of specialist buildings including aged care homes and independent living communities and we will utilise their skills to develop a final design for this significant milestone for our community.

It won't just be the architects involved however. Boneham staff, residents and representatives will all have an opportunity to contribute to the design through a design reference group which will commence work in coming weeks.

We thank Walter Brooke for joining us in this exciting project and we look forward to working closely with them over the next year of design.

Here at Walter Brooke, we get excited about great design that inspires people. Throughout our 40 years as leading Adelaide architects, we’ve seen how powerful architecture can be. More than quality design, truly great architecture exerts profound influence on its surrounds. It resonates with peopl...

Today is a ribbon cutting, red letter sort of day for us at Boneham. After almost a year of preparation, training and planning with the Groworx organisation in the Phillipines, our 4 new Registered Nurses have this week joined us to help care for our residents.

Each will fill gaps on our Registered Nursing roster once they have finalised their Australian registration and will help resolve the long term vacancies in RN's that we have experienced for many, many years.

Welcome to Chesca, Ted, Enzo and Jessie. You have all impressed us with your care, compassion and professionalism in the short time we have known you. We hope you settle into Millicent quickly as we know our community will embrace you and help you feel at home.

Special thanks to all of our lovely ex-pat Fillipino staff who have wrapped their arms around our new staff already and are helping them settle in to Millicent. And to Mercia, our People Culture and Safety Manager, who has coordinated the entire recruitment and migration process and Deb from Lifestyle And Clare for their tour guiding expertise!

Everybody loves an icecream so we thought we'd treat our residents and staff to a visit from The Icecream King. Shame about the weather but it's always sunny with an icecream in hand.

Happy Random Acts of Kindness day to everyone.

Dear Residents and Representatives

This is my first communication as the Interim CEO of Boneham Aged Care. For those who do not know me, I have worked as a projects manager for Boneham since 2020 and been part of the leadership team since February of that year. I am acting as interim CEO whilst the Board prepares to commence a search for a new permanent leader to replace Michael Filsell who leaves us in the first week of April.

There will be a formal farewell for Michael in April to celebrate his 15 years of service to Boneham to which residents and family members will be invited. Until his departure Michael will continue to provide leadership and management support for which we are grateful. He will certainly be missed.

We are pleased to note that we remain COVID free for the moment but are aware of gastro and flu bugs circulating in the community. Please remember to postpone visiting if you have any illness symptoms for the safety of our vulnerable residents.

The Commonwealth Department of Health has reminded us that Resident Experience Surveys will shortly commence for 2026. These surveys seek input from randomly selected residents to inform the department and other consumers about the quality of care and support we provide to our residents. We do not have a date for their attendance on site as yet but will advise once we are informed. Please note that residents asked to participate can decline if they choose to do so.

Speaking of feedback, we remind our residents and representatives that you are welcome to attend our monthly resident's meetings which are held on the first Thursday of each month at 10.30 am in our DIVA room. The next meeting is on Thursday 5th March and we hope to see many of you there.

We are also pleased to note that we have now appointed a project management company for the design phase of the new memory support unit build and have been lucky to secure the project manager who assisted us with our grant application. We are currently in the process of reviewing expressions of interest from several highly experienced architect firms with the aim to make an appointment in the next month.

Finally, we are thrilled to note that we have 4 new registered nurses joining Boneham next week through our overseas recruitment drive. They will start work as carers whilst they obtain their Australian practice rights before moving into our Registered Nursing roster. We have told them how lovely and welcoming the Millicent community is and we are looking forward to introducing them to everybody in coming weeks.

We thank you for your continued support.

Dear residents and representatives

We hope you all had a joyous and peaceful Christmas and New Year and those who had some holiday time are well rested.

It is business as usual at Boneham despite the holidays as this tends to be one of our busiest times of the year.

We remain COVID free at the moment but have been advised of some respiratory and gastro illnesses circulating in the community so please remain cautious and do not visit if you have any illness symptoms.

A reminder that we will be open as always for visitors throughout the Australia Day long weekend.

In other news our Board has now formed a committee to manage the upcoming expansion and we are currently seeking expressions of interest from experiences aged care architects to develop a final design. We expect the design process to last a number of months and it will include consultation with residents and family members to ensure that their views are incorporated as much as possible in the final design.

A brief apology to all that our self serve coffee machine in the cafe is out of order. We are waiting on parts to repair it and will let you all know when it is back in action. You can still get a great coffee from the cafe shop however during opening hours of 9am to 3pm

Please also remember that family members can book a meal with their residents for $12 at lunchtime and $10 at dinner time. Please book through our reception.

Take care on the roads whilst everyone is still in holiday mode and we look forward to your continued support in 2026.

Kind regards

Michael Filsell
Chief Executive Officer
