In the first days after birth, the number on the scale doesn’t always tell the full story.

Research shows that higher amounts of maternal IV fluids are linked with greater early newborn weight loss — suggesting that early drops on the scale often reflect fluid shifts, not feeding problems.
Weight checks are still important. True excessive weight loss and signs of dehydration must always be taken seriously. But numbers should be considered alongside feeding effectiveness, nappy output, alertness, and your baby’s overall wellbeing.
Sometimes the scale is showing fluid adjustment — not feeding failure.

Just a little note about our Mum’s group;

This isn’t a formally run or structured program, and it’s not a facilities-based group. It’s simply a relaxed, welcoming space for new parents to meet others in the local area, have a chat, share experiences, and socialise in a safe environment

There’s also the added bonus of having midwife Asha available for guidance and support with all things baby, parenting and postpartum-whether you have questions, need reassurance, or just want to check bub’s growth & development.

Asha is a highly experienced clinical midwife with over 25 years experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the early parenting journey. Known for her calm, compassionate, and evidence-based care, Asha is dedicated to empowering parents with confidence and support every step of the way.

Asha’s baby clinic runs every Tuesday from 9.30-12.30pm, and the informal mother’s group is a lovely opportunity to connect with other new parents while you wait. This group runs every Tuesday from 10-12pm.
