Mastering Motor Skills in a Social Setting ✨

We believe that some of the best developmental progress happens through the subtle art of play!

This group is designed for children aged 6 to 12, offering a unique opportunity to receive evidence-based occupational therapy in a supportive setting.

Led by our clinical team in Modbury North, this fortnightly program uses games, sports, arts, and crafting to help your child develop confidence and generalise motor skills during group interaction.

We’ll help your child with their motor skills, social interactions, and their ability to work in teams ✊🏼

Start Date: Thursday, 19th February 2026 📢

When: Fortnightly on Thursdays, 3:30 - 4:50pm.

Location: Unit 3, 247 Milne Road, Modbury North.

The first step is a suitability session to ensure this group is right for your child’s needs.

Santa’s off the clock, but his helpers are still here!

We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and a great start to the New Year. We are feeling refreshed and excited to be back in the clinic to kick off 2026.

Our little team is growing too, with some new elves having already joined us! We can’t wait to introduce them to you properly 😊

It’s beginning to smell a lot like Christmas 🍪🎅🏻🎄

This week, George spent his OT session turning a plate of gingerbread people into works of art.

There was a lot of concentration, a lot of colour, and just the right amount of taste-testing along the way.

What looks like a simple activity was also a way to:
• Practise fine motor skills icing/placing tiny lollies
• Plan and follow steps, from decorating to eating
• Explore a range of textures, smells, and flavours
• Chat and laugh while creating something unique

Sessions like this are a good reminder that therapy doesn’t have to look like “work” to be meaningful…

Sometimes it looks like biscuits, blue icing, and a proud George showing off his finished creation 🤗

We have some bittersweet news!

Today is Hin’s last day with us (for now).

While we’re sad to see our beloved coworker step away from the clinic, we’re also very excited for her, as she prepares to welcome her little girl, Lydia 👶🏻

If you’ve met Hin, you’d know how calm, thoughtful and playful she is with kids. The way she turns hard things into games and always has time for a chat…

The clinic won’t feel quite the same without her.

Hin, on behalf of the whole team and all the families you’ve supported, thank you for the care, creativity, and heart you’ve poured into your work here at 8ST.

We’re going to miss you so much ❤️

Small OT Group for Big Life Skills!

Our OT-led group is designed for tweens and teens (upper primary to high school) who need a bit more support practising real-life social skills 🤩

Throughout the term, we’ll be working on:

🎓 Social skills for settling into high school

💬 Handling conflict and tough situations

🧠 Problem-solving when plans change

🔕 Setting and respecting boundaries

🦾 Building confidence in who they are

👏🏼 Teamwork and collaborating with others

When OT and Speech Work Together

Families are often surprised by how efficiently occupational therapists and speech pathologists work together.

Both teams support kids and young people to build everyday skills – just from slightly different angles.

Here are some times they may team up:

😤 Big feelings in busy places

An OT may focus on sensory regulation, coping strategies, and attention in noisy environments…

While a speech pathologist supports the child to understand instructions and express their feelings.

🍽️ Mealtimes and picky eating

An OT might look at posture, sensory sensitivities, and fine motor skills (such as using cutlery)…

While a speech pathologist considers chewing, swallowing and the language and the social side.

📚 School and learning

An OT may work on handwriting, sitting posture, organisation and focus…

While a speechie assists with understanding classroom language and following instructions.

🛝 Friendships and play

An OT can help with play skills, turn-taking, and motor planning for participating in activities…

While a speechie supports social communication, conversation skills, and reading non-verbal cues.

When OT and Speech work together, kids aren’t doing “more therapy”, they’re getting a joined-up plan that supports the same goals from different directions, with families at the centre.

If you’re ever unsure which therapist is the “right” one, it’s okay to simply start the conversation 😊

Therapy in Action looks like play with purpose 🤹🏻‍♀️

For example this parachute becomes a way to build regulation, turn-taking, timing, and motor planning!

We start with what matters to the child (having fun, staying engaged), then layer skills: moving together, waiting for a cue, being aware of where the balls roll, and planning the next move 💭

These are the foundations that transfer to daily life!

…calmer routines, joining group activities, following instructions at school, and feeling self-confident ☀️

📍 Casual | Modbury North | 12-20 hours per week

Your day-to-day:
• Design and create digital therapy resources
(a core part of the role) — no task is too big or small.
• Greet families in a warm, welcoming manner
• Onboard clients; update/maintain client records.
• Handle family enquiries on the phone and in person.
• Maintain accurate clinical files and documentation.
• Open or close the therapy centre as rostered.

Strengths we value:
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Teams.
• Comfortable using Canva (or similar creative apps).
• Quick to learn management software and systems.
• High attention to detail, reliable follow-through, and clear communication.

Our OTs work alongside young people and their families to co-design powerful supports that are:
