Let’s all do this one please!

In Denmark, kindness isn’t just encouraged it’s taught. Since 1993, the country has required all children aged 6 to 16 to take a weekly empathy class.

These lessons go beyond academics, focusing on compassion, understanding, and emotional awareness. Children learn how to listen, support one another, and navigate conflict in constructive ways. The results have been striking: bullying has dropped significantly, classrooms have become more inclusive, and Denmark is consistently ranked among the world’s happiest and kindest societies.

It’s a powerful reminder that emotional education is just as important as intellectual growth. When children are taught empathy early, they don’t just become better classmates they grow into adults who build stronger, more compassionate communities.

Engage

Inspiring Colac's young people to make their mark

What is Engage?

It is Colac Salvo's school engagement program, giving schools, teachers and students easier access to serving and connecting with the Community through initiatives like Otway Wardrobe, Otway TentCare, The Drop-in, our Community Garden and Meals happening throughout the week.

Last term saw the prototyping of the Engage program, which had 100 young people partaking throughout each week of the term, and term 3 is no different, with 5 sessions taking place each week.
The program aims to enhance schools and teachers freedom and flexibility in helping create learning experiences deeply embedded in Community, engaging and inspiring their students.

So far, the Engage program is actively happening with Saints College Colac, Colac Secondary College and looking to launch at Colac South West Primary School very soon.

Through community grants, are-able made it possible for Colac Salvos to better support the Colac Region, through their support we were able to procure a pallet jack and pallets, to better manage the large amounts of material aid we handle and distribute.

From mountains of Christmas presents for Christmas Cheer, to pallets of fresh produce, this pallet jack ensures the safety and longevity of the Colac Salvos Volunteers who work their hardest to support this amazing Community.

Thank you are-able for financially supporting us but also for your ongoing support through volunteering in Colac Salvos initiatives. You are amazing.
