At MLSP Speech Pathology, we are an all-female team of speech pathologists. But our favorite stories aren't about us. They’re about the women and girls we see every day.

It’s the girl finding the confidence to speak up in her first job interview.

It’s the woman regaining her "voice" after a neurological change.

It’s the daughter finally being able to tell her family how she feels.

We provide the tools, but they provide the courage. Today, we celebrate the strength of every female client we have the privilege to support. 💜

Happy International Women's Day.

Help Us Build a More Inclusive MLSP 🧡

At MLSP, we are committed to creating a space where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and valued. To do that well, we need your voice.

We’re inviting clients, family/caregivers, and fellow clinicians to share feedback on how inclusive MLSP is across areas such as our policies, our environment, our clinicians and services.

Your feedback will directly guide meaningful changes and help us continue building a practice that is inclusive and supportive of all individuals and communities.

📝 Take a few moments to share your perspective, your input truly matters. LINK IN COMMENTS.

Thank you for helping us grow, listen, and do better, together.

Thank you 🙂

This week we celebrated International Day of People with Disability. The 2025 theme which is close to all our hearts is "Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress". We couldn't resist sharing this post from one of our incredible clients - a young man with a huge heart. Thanks for sharing Fred. :)

Walk with Purpose. Walk for MND.

On Monday 17th November 2025, the MLSP Speech Pathology team will be walking around beautiful Narrabeen Lake to support people living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Right now, more than 500 people in NSW are living with MND — many needing intensive daily support. Together, we can help MND NSW continue their incredible work providing care, advocacy, and hope for people and families facing this tough journey.

Every step counts 💪
Every dollar helps 💙

𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝑨𝑨𝑪 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉!

A few weeks ago, our team had a fantastic session with LinkAT diving into the world of AAC and eye gaze technology. 💬👀

We explored how eye gaze systems can empower individuals with complex communication needs to express themselves more independently and effectively. A big thank you to Loren from LinkAT for the hands-on learning and valuable insights!

Conversations can sometimes feel challenging, but small changes can make a big difference. Here are a few simple strategies:

👉 Speak slowly and clearly
👉 Use short, simple sentences
👉 Ask one question at a time
👉 Allow extra time for a response
👉 Use names and context to help with memory
👉 Offer reassurance with your tone, facial expression, and body language
👉 Validate what they say - if they think their kids are coming home from school, reassure them.
👉 Reminisce with them. Go through photo albums or mementos together
👉 Reduce any distractions in the background that might compete with your conversation

Remember — it’s not just about words. A warm smile, gentle touch, or shared activity can say just as much. 💜

Together we can make communication easier and more meaningful.

🧠💜 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

This week we pause to raise awareness and stand with people living with dementia, their families, and carers. Communication is central to connection, but dementia can make expressing needs, thoughts, and feelings more challenging.

As speech pathologists, we work alongside people living with dementia to support:
✅ Maintaining meaningful conversations
✅ Provide strategies and tools for self-advocacy and express their well-being
✅ Supporting families and carers with practical communication strategies

Every small step can make a big difference in helping someone feel heard, valued, and understood.

No one can do it alone. Let’s continue the conversation to create a community where people living with dementia feel supported. 💜
