Montville revival builds on new businesses, renewed confidence.
Montville’s growing number of new small businesses and a renewed sense of optimism are fuelling a revival in the hinterland village, according to newly elected Montville Chamber of Commerce, Arabella Lubbers.
Ms Lubbers said the Chamber was focused on positioning Montville for sustainable growth while preserving its unique character.
“The Montville Chamber is a tourism-based chamber and as such we need to work with Visit Sunshine Coast and Hinterland Tourism to drive visitors up to the hinterland and then offer an exceptional experience when they get here,” she said.
She confirmed several projects were underway with Sunshine Coast Council, Visit Sunshine Coast Hinterland and Hinterland Tourism Sunshine Coast.
“We are working on some exciting projects that will be announced when they are ready,” she said.
Ms Lubbers said a resurgence in consumer confidence had led to a wave of new businesses opening in the village this year. “Tourism numbers have improved, especially over the winter months when our weather is more stable,” she said.
“I am excited about the level of service and range of products that we now have in our village — they appeal to locals as well as tourists and that is a good mix. New businesses can see the potential in Montville, and our Chamber is very proactive in supporting the new and exciting openings.”
She said Montville remained true to its artisan roots. “Montville is very much an artisan village and Montville is bigger than just our Main Street,” she said.
“We have many well-known artists, potters, glass blowers and woodworkers that live in Montville and surrounds and we have a thriving arts scene up here in the hinterland.”
Ms Lubbers said the Chamber planned to strengthen collaboration with Maleny.
“Maleny and Montville have different vibes but we are both important contributors to the ongoing success of the hinterland,” she said.
“Visitors that come to the hinterland visit and stay in both Maleny and Montville so we will all benefit from increased visitor numbers.”
“The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is a special place,” she said. “We need the tourism spend to fund the services and lifestyle that we all want, but we also need to retain the rural, village feel that we all love. It’s a tricky balancing act.
“We have some very exciting things happening in the next 6 months but I cannot divulge at this stage. The hinterland will be working hard to create a magical place to visit and live.”
