Magnesium L-Threonate (often just called Magnesium Threonate or Magtein) is the one you’re thinking of.
It’s the form of magnesium that starts with “Th” (from L-Threonic acid), and it’s the only type that effectively crosses the blood-brain barrier to directly boost brain magnesium levels. Joe Rogan and guests like Andrew Huberman have talked about it a lot on the podcast — mostly for better sleep, cognitive function, memory, and reducing brain fog/anxiety — but it’s also popular in those circles for helping prevent or reduce migraines (because low brain magnesium is linked to migraine attacks, and threonate targets the brain best).
Huberman specifically calls it “magnesium threonate” (or “three-oh-eight” as a nickname for the compound) in multiple JRE episodes when recommending it as part of a sleep stack.
If you’re getting it for migraines, the usual dose discussed is 200–400 mg of elemental magnesium (or 2–3 grams of the full Magtein compound) taken in the evening. A lot of people (including Rogan listeners) swear by the brands Momentous or DoubleWood because they’ve been mentioned/sponsored on the show.
That’s the “A-word” one everyone raves about from JRE!
