🎄 Mindful December – Preparing for the Holidays with Care and Calm

“You don’t have to do it all — just do what matters, and do it mindfully.”

As we step into the second week of December, excitement for the holidays begins to build — but so can stress, pressure, and exhaustion.
This is your reminder to pause, plan, and protect your energy before the busyness begins.

Whether you’re preparing your home, organising gatherings, or supporting others — mindfulness means recognising your own capacity and giving yourself permission to say “that’s enough for today.”

💭 Mindful Planning Tips for the Holiday Season

✨ Write down the most important things you want to focus on this month.
✨ Schedule downtime just like you would any appointment — your wellbeing deserves space on the calendar.
✨ Practice saying no kindly when your plate is full.
✨ Replace “perfect” with “peaceful” in your expectations.
✨ Check in daily with yourself: What do I need right now?

What’s one way you can make this holiday season calmer for yourself or someone else? Lets help spread mindful kindness this December. 💚

💙 Celebrating International Day of People with Disability 💙

Yesterday we celebrated International Day of People with Disability with a relaxed BBQ, good food, and great company.
It was a beautiful reminder of what inclusion truly looks like — connection, laughter, shared moments and a sense of belonging.

This day is about recognising the incredible strengths, contributions and individuality of people with disability, and continuing our commitment to creating environments where everyone feels valued and supported.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, joined in, cooked, chatted and helped make the day special. Highling our team leaders Manpreet and Selina who led the day.

Inclusion is something we live, not just something we talk about — and yesterday was a perfect example of that. 💙✨

🌟 Welcome December — Mindful Start to the Last Month of the Year

🧘 “As the year winds down, let each step become a gentle reminder — you’re here, you’re present, you’re enough.”

Here’s a special moment to pause. December has arrived: a month of reflection, of slowing, and of preparing to finish the year well. Take a moment of awareness, gratitude and connection.

💛 Social Inclusion Week 🌿

“Inclusion starts with connection — every smile, every conversation, every open door.”

This week we’re celebrating Social Inclusion Week, a time to recognise the power of belonging, diversity, and community. At More Opportunities, inclusion isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we practice every day.

We’re proud to support people of all backgrounds and abilities to connect, grow, and thrive.

🌼 Ways to Celebrate Inclusion This Week

💬 Start a Conversation — take time to check in with someone new at work, in your neighbourhood, or during community activities.
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Join a Local Event — attend an activity or market near you that celebrates connection.
🌱 Support Inclusion Locally — buy from inclusive businesses, visit your neighbourhood houses, or volunteer for a local initiative.

Let’s celebrate the small acts that create big change — together we can make inclusion part of everyday life. 💚

🌿 Mindful Walking Week🌿

“Walk slowly, breathe deeply, and let each step bring you home to yourself.”

This week, we invite our Moonah and Mirrabooka communities to take part in a mindful walking experience, with optional community stops. You might walk, then pause at any of the local events listed, or simply use the walk as your own presence time.

Here are some local events you could walk to or through during the week:

MercyCare’s Mirrabooka WA Community Markets — a community-led market that celebrates diversity with food, arts & crafts and informal connection opportunities.

Glenorchy TAS City Council’s Moonah Arts Centre exhibition programme — the centre runs ongoing community-friendly arts events.

Mirrabooka WA Friday Market — an outdoor market behind the Herb Graham Recreation Centre; good for a walk + browse + mindful pause.

Some local walking tracks include:

Moonah / West Moonah (Tasmania)
- Amy Street Reserve — 1 km loop, moderate grade, nice views over the city/Derwent and native flora.
- Glenorchy Recreation Ground — about 4.2 km (2.6 miles) easy route.

Mirrabooka (Western Australia)
- Farnesian / Wintersweet Reserve (5 Farnesian Cir, Mirrabooka) — family-friendly reserve with paths for walking/running in a quiet setting.
- Mirrabooka Bushland — flat, natural terrain walk of about 3 km, good for all ages.

Which community stop or walking track did you visit? How did it change your mindset?

🌿 Mindfulness Monday 🌿
This week’s theme: “Presence in the Pause.”
When the day feels full and fast, invite yourself to a simple pause:

Stop for one conscious breath before starting anything new.

Notice three things around you (colour, sound, texture).

Then proceed with kindness — to yourself and others.
These small pauses build awareness, connection, and calm. 💜

🗓️ What’s On This Week (17–22 Nov):
• In the City of Stirling area (WA): a free “Modern Cloth Nappy Pop-in Q&A” session at Mirrabooka Library on Wed 19 Nov.

• In the Hobart / Tasmania region: browse the “Upcoming Events” calendar on the City of Hobart website for things happening this week across culture, community, wellness.
