Forward head posture, jaw development, tongue ties, incorrect swallow patterns, mobile phone use...these can all cause restrictions in the muscle attachments of the hyoid bone - the floating bone in your throat involved in swallowing π
Because of developmental and lifestyle factors, these muscle attachments can become very restricted, making swallowing difficult.
Treatment includes releasing these muscles, as well as assessing the nerves that control the muscles and improving feedback to the brain, and targeted exercises to improve the functioning of the muscles involved in swallowing.
Head, neck, and throat traumas are also contributing factors that need to be considered.
Because of this, I don't always release these muscles myself, but rather guide my clients how to release them themselves, so they have complete control, as it can be quite triggering for some people.
