Not sure whether to see a psychologist or a psychiatrist?
You’re not alone 🤍 It’s a really common question — and there’s no “wrong” place to start.
Our clinical psychologist Alana breaks down the difference between the two and where you might begin.
What matters most is taking the first step. Support can always be adjusted as your needs change.
If you’re unsure where to begin, your GP or a psychologist can help guide the way.
At Solution Psychology, we’re here to support you wherever you’re at.

💤 Sleep = brain power 💤
Sleep plays a critical role in attention, learning, memory, emotional regulation, and decision-making. When sleep is lacking, we’re more likely to see difficulties with focus, behaviour, mood, and problem-solving - at school, work, and home.
Research also shows that poor sleep is linked to increases in anxious and depressed thoughts, making emotional challenges harder to manage.
Children & teens need enough sleep to support learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation.
Adults rely on sleep for concentration, productivity, memory consolidation, and managing stress.
During sleep, the brain:
💤 consolidates memories
💤 supports clear thinking and problem-solving
💤 helps regulate emotions
💤 protects long-term brain health
If sleep is a struggle, psychologists can help with sleep hygiene strategies and evidence-based approaches like CBT-I to support better rest and better functioning.
