🚨 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🚨

Good afternoon Montrose.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Fire Weather Warning for the CENTRAL District today at 4:06pm.
Tomorrow is also a STATE-WIDE Total Fire Ban.

With forecast temperatures in the mid-40s, gusty north to north-westerly winds, and a south-westerly wind change expected later tomorrow night, we are strongly urging residents to LEAVE EARLY and be prepared to stay away overnight.

If you are able to, consider leaving tonight or early tomorrow morning at the latest.

⚠️ This is not a “wait and see” day.
If a fire starts in our local landscape, it will move quickly and be extremely difficult to stop. The last couple of weeks of weather have pre-dried the environment — it is ready to burn.

Please action your bushfire survival plan now.

Watching Sky News (we have been informed by a few of you this may not be a great choice)

Remaining situationally aware of your surroundings

We are not telling you to evacuate because there is a fire.
We are asking you to leave early in case a fire starts.

Your safety comes first.

💧 Staying hydrated is critical in this extreme heat.
Children and the elderly can become dehydrated very quickly in these conditions.

Please ensure everyone is drinking water regularly, even if they don’t feel thirsty, and keep a close eye on loved ones, neighbours, and those who may be more vulnerable.

Early signs of dehydration can escalate fast in this weather — don’t ignore them.

Air Quality is improving but it might deteriorate again on Wednesday or earlier if more fires develop so keep an eye out for warnings from VicEmergency

The smoke has cleared and air quality is generally GOOD across the state. We expect it to remain good over the next few days.

If your home is smoky from bushfires and outdoor air quality has improved, open windows and doors to let fresh air in. If you can do this early before the heat builds up.

Keep following VicEmergency and CFA (Country Fire Authority) for updates.

Don’t call 000 just because you smell smoke. There is smoke over Melbourne from the Fires in the Otways. For those who are young, over 65 or with any lung issues please avoid time outside and keep your windows closed.

Important info for those who travel through Lilydale. Night works in early Feb.

⚠️⚠️NIGHT ROAD WORKS - LILYDALE⚠️⚠️
VICROADS PROJECT.
Night road works will be occurring along the outbound lanes of Maroondah Highway, Lilydale, from 1 Feb to 5 Feb 2026, between the times of approximately 7pm to 6am each night.

The works are between North Road and east of Nelson Road. Detours will be in place, and a shuttle flow arrangement will be in place and will affect traffic along Maroondah Highway, between Anderson Street and the Warburton Highway.

Yarra Ranges Council Traffic Team have requested that the works commence at 8pm, however this may not be possible. This is a Department of Transport and Planning (VicRoads) project.

Some options for non-urgent help while we are closed:
- Your GP Clinic if open
- Your usual chemist (you can ask about getting your usual medications and owing a script if you've found yourself without a script over this break & can't get into your GP)
- NDSS helpline on 1800-637-700 (see previous shared post for hours)

For semi-urgent or urgent assistance:
- 000 for all life threatening or severe emergencies
- Your local Urgent Care Clinic - for those in our local area there is now one in Lilydale - 17 Clarke St - but I don't think they have on site radiology
- Your local Emergency Department for genuine emergency issues
- Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) http://www.vved.org.au - a free 24/7 online option for emergency review for those in Victoria. This service can be especially helpful if deciding whether you need to go to Emergency in person or wait to see your GP (or be seen at an urgent care) the next day. This is also a great option if you're on holidays and a long drive from your closest Emergency department and you're not sure what to do.

This helpline is available over the Christmas/New Year break. Hopefully you don’t need it but it’s there in case you do.

We know diabetes doesn’t pause for the holidays. While our social media channels will be unattended during this time, the NDSS Helpline will remain available on weekdays throughout the holiday season, closing only on public holidays.

Are you unwell over this Christmas/New Year break and not sure whether to go to ED in person? Maybe you’re away and the closest ED is a long drive from your location. You can contact Victorian Virtual ED from anywhere in Victoria for free 24/7. It’s an online emergency service (video or phone) and they even have Diabetes nurses as part of their team for Diabetes related emergency support.

The Eye and Ear Hospital ED is currently closed. For those in the outer East probably try our local public ED’s first and they can then direct you to another ED if required. Hopefully this is a short lived closure.

**IMPORTANT PATIENT ANNOUNCEMENT**

Due to a major water leak affecting areas of the hospital:

- EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT IS CLOSED: Until further notice, patients requiring emergency eye, ear, nose and throat treatment are advised to attend Emergency Department's at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Alfred Health, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, or for children, The Royal Children’s Hospital, or call 000. If your condition is not urgent, please consider seeing your GP.

- SURGERIES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED: Affected patients due to have surgery will be contacted by the hospital to reschedule their surgeries.

- SPECIALIST CLINICS APPOINTMENTS: At this stage only one clinic has been impacted and all other clinics are proceeding as normal. Affected patients will be contacted to reschedule their appointments.
