Yesterday you may have seen us share similar slides from our association, Funerals Australia. Today, we’re sharing them again; because it takes more than one voice to raise awareness and create meaningful change.

We are asking for your support and commitment to help us achieve our goal of being recognised as an essential service.

The funeral industry isn’t something people think about every day, and it’s not something you can plan for with certainty. But when the time comes, we are essential.

Without reliable access to fuel, or if restrictions are placed on our usage, our ability to care for families is impacted. This can affect how we transport your loved ones, operate our hearses, attend crematoriums, and support families through arrangements.

So today, we ask you for one thing; if you can, please share this post.

Funeral directors travel significant distances every day to bring loved ones into care and support families through the funeral process. Reliable access to fuel is essential to ensure these services continue without disruption.

As the peak national body, Funerals Australia is advocating to State and Federal Ministers for funeral services to be recognised as an essential service in any fuel prioritisation arrangements, helping ensure families can continue to receive care when they need it most.

Join us in advocating for recognition of funeral services in emergency fuel planning.

Harmony Week is an annual Australian celebration that recognises the nation’s cultural diversity and promotes inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone, no matter where you come from or what language you speak.

It’s a time when communities, workplaces, schools and organisations across Australia hold events, activities and conversations that honour multiculturalism and highlight the positive contribution of culturally and linguistically diverse people to Australia’s social fabric.

National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day

A day dedicated to recognising and appreciating the compassion, professionalism, and service of funeral directors and morticians; the people who support families through loss, help plan meaningful farewells, and ensure dignified ceremonies during some of life’s toughest moments.

Funeral directors and morticians often work behind the scenes during times of sorrow, handling intricate details from coordinating services to preparing loved ones for respectful farewells, with dignity and empathy. This day encourages people to express gratitude for their dedication, compassion, and often under‑acknowledged contributions to communities.
