Something old. Something new.....
My Mum and Dad, Kirk and Neville Kirk, were the in .Giles
from the 1970's until Dad's retirement thirty years later.
If you don't know the village, it's as idyllic as it sounds. The practice was on
The Green, opposite the duck pond, near Mrs Harris' pet shop and Axe the chemist......they used to shoot episodes of Dad's Army up by the church.
Back in 1992 our own journey in optics began at this very address.
and I were helping Dad decorate the practice when we stumbled across a box of Sidney and Percy's original frames. Until that day, we had no inclination to be the next generation in but once the box was open, there was no closing it.
Those were the days before digital photography so not many pics or visual souvenirs remain but I love this lens cloth, simple and to the point.
Esme and Neville had several practices including and that Dad shared with his brothers before going it alone, and I spent every Saturday from the age of four, sitting at the reception desk, answering the phone and greeting patients.
How could I not follow in the family footsteps?
Oh, the something blue.....is our latest addition to the collection.
