Why the Neck Works Harder Than We Think!!
Today I supported one of my regular clients who came in with tension through his neck, shoulders, glutes, and hamstrings. He spends long hours standing and walking at work, and he also plays golf often, which adds extra rotational load through the spine and upper body.

He noticed tightness on the left side of his neck and shoulder, along with discomfort around the C6 to T1 area when bending his neck forward. His front‑neck muscles were also working harder than usual, which can happen when the body is tired or compensating. The tightness in his glutes and hamstrings was contributing to the overall strain through his posture and movement.

Golf involves repeated rotation through the shoulders, spine, and hips. When the head stays still and the body rotates underneath, the lower part of the neck becomes the anchor point. Over time, this can create extra tension through the neck and upper back, especially when the muscles are already tight from work or daily habits.

During today’s session, I focused on releasing the deep and superficial neck muscles, easing the shoulders, and working through the glutes and hamstrings to support the whole posterior chain. By the end, he felt lighter and more comfortable through his neck and upper body.

**Golf rotation, long work shifts, and daily posture all contribute to how the body feels. When the neck, lower back, and legs work harder than they should, tension builds through the whole chain.
Supporting these areas with targeted remedial massage helps restore balance, ease, and movement.**

If you experience similar tightness from work, sport, or daily movement patterns, regular remedial massage can help support your overall wellbeing and keep your body moving with more ease. Your body works hard for you every day — it deserves care and attention.

SI Joint & S1–S2 Discomfort!!

Hip Pain Radiating Down the Leg Caused by S1–S2 Soft‑Tissue Irritation.

Today I worked with a client who presented with a very common but often misunderstood pattern of pain. She reported deep discomfort on the left side of the sacrum, just below the PSIS — an area closely related to the sacroiliac (SI) joint.

Her symptoms did not stay in the hip.
The discomfort radiated down the back of the leg, behind the knee, toward the outer calf and the outer border of the foot, following the S1 nerve pathway very clearly.

Findings from Today’s Session!!

Today I found increased tension and sensitivity around the left side of her lower back, particularly near the SI joint and just below the PSIS. The soft tissues in this area feel irritated and slightly reactive to pressure, which matches the discomfort she has been describing.

There is also noticeable tightness in the deep gluteal muscles and the muscles that support the lower spine. These patterns can place extra load on the L5–S1 region and the top of the sacrum (S1), which may contribute to the nerve‑like sensations she feels down the leg at times.

Overall, today’s findings are consistent with SI joint irritation combined with muscular overload around the lower lumbar and sacral area. These patterns can influence how the pelvis moves and how weight is transferred through the hips, which explains why certain positions or activities increase her symptoms.

** How Remedial Massage Helps **

Remedial massage helps calm everything that’s working too hard around the SI joint and the S1–S2 area. When the soft tissues get tight or irritated, they start pulling on the pelvis and lower spine — and that’s when the discomfort shows up. Massage gives the body a chance to reset.

What it helps with?
• Softens tight glute and hip muscles that overload the SI joint
• Reduces irritation in the tissues around S1–S2
• Helps settle nerve‑like sensations that travel down the leg
• Improves how the pelvis moves and how weight transfers through the hips
• Breaks the cycle of tension → pain → more tension
• Supports better posture and easier daily movement

Why it works?
When the muscles relax, the SI joint can move more freely.
When the tissues calm down, the nerve irritation settles.
When the pelvis moves better, the whole lower back feels lighter.
It’s a gentle, supportive way to help the body find balance again — without forcing anything.

“I’m totally thrown off .”
🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🙅‍♀️
Some (New) clients may still feel confused.
They pay for a relaxation massage, but once they enter the room, they suddenly ask for very strong, deep pressure.
This isn’t appropriate, dear client — ** it’s not very fair.**

Before the session, I always ask about your needs and clearly explain the different types of massage and how they differ.
You agreed to and were happy with a relaxation massage, so **changing your mind *after* payment makes things difficult.**

**Asking for strong work on the back, shoulders, neck, and legs is not part of a relaxation massage. **

That type of pressure belongs to a Therapeutic or Deep Tissue massage. So this request isn’t suitable — and honestly, not very nice.**

**Next time, if you want a strong massage, you’re very welcome to book the deeper treatment. **

For today, It’s your first visit, so it’s understandable that you may not fully understand the differences yet.🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰😁😁😁

“Hydration After Massage"

**Why You Should Avoid Cold Exposure After a Massage**
After a massage:
• Blood vessels are dilated (vasodilation)
• Muscles and fascia are warm and relaxed
• The nervous system shifts from a stressed state to a relaxed state
If the body is exposed to cold immediately — such as cold wind, cold water, or very cold weather —
• Blood vessels constrict instantly (vasoconstriction)
• Recently relaxed muscles may tighten again
• This can lead to increased soreness later
• The body must use extra energy to maintain its temperature
This is why offering warm tea and allowing clients to rest in a warm room is excellent after massage care.

**Why Cold Drinks Are Not Recommended After a Massage**
Cold beverages can cause:
• Constriction of digestive and abdominal blood vessels
• Slower blood circulation as the body adjusts its temperature
• Reduced relaxation effects
• Possible dizziness, bloating, or discomfort in some clients
Warm water or warm tea helps:
• Maintain healthy circulation
• Support the removal of metabolic waste released from the muscles
• Bring the body back into balance more smoothly

**Why You Should Avoid Eating Immediately After a Massage**
After a massage:
• The nervous system is in rest-and-recovery mode (parasympathetic)
• A large amount of blood is circulating through the skin and muscles
• The digestive system has not fully returned to its normal activity
If you eat right away:
• You may experience bloating, fullness, or nausea
• The body must redirect blood flow to digestion, causing fatigue or light-headedness
• The sense of relaxation may decrease
Waiting 20–30 minutes before eating is ideal.

Why stretching after exercise matters !!!

1. Reduces muscle soreness
- Post‑exercise stretching can slightly decrease delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).
- It helps muscles return toward their pre‑exercise length and reduces tightness.

2. Restores range of motion
- Muscles shorten during exercise. Stretching helps them lengthen again, preventing stiffness and maintaining joint mobility.

3. Improves blood flow
- Stretching increases circulation to the muscles, which supports recovery and may reduce soreness.

4. Supports posture and reduces injury risk
- Tight muscles can pull joints out of alignment and increase strain.
- Regular stretching helps keep muscles long, flexible, and better able to support your joints.

5. Helps with relaxation
- After exercise, stretching calms the nervous system and releases tension—great for stress relief.

When to stretch
- Stretch "after" your workout, when muscles are warm and more pliable.
- Hold each stretch for about "30 seconds", without bouncing.

The psoas muscle is among the most significant muscles that overlie the vertebral column. It is a long fusiform muscle on either side of the vertebral column and the brim of the lesser pelvis. At its distal end, it combines with the iliacus muscle to form the iliopsoas muscle.
