We were delighted to welcome Ella and her mum Michelle to Maryvale Private Hospital, where Ella presented CEO Daniel Scholtes with a certificate of appreciation following a recent donation.
We’re proud to support Michelle as she gears up for the Great Escape Oz Rally, raising vital funds for Cystic Fibrosis research. You can follow Michelle’s journey via page ‘The Great Escape Oz Car Rally Team Ella’ and please consider donating if you are able.
This cause is especially meaningful to our team, with one of our nurses having two boys living with cystic fibrosis. She has kindly shared the following message:
“Being a mum to two boys living with cystic fibrosis is something I never imagined for my life - but it is also something that has shaped me in ways I am incredibly proud of.
CF isn’t just hospital admissions or clinic appointments. It’s daily medications, physio, enzymes before every meal, advocating in every setting, and constantly thinking three steps ahead. It’s celebrating the small wins that other families might take for granted - a good cough, a clear chest, a week without antibiotics. It’s learning a whole new language of resilience.
But more than anything, it’s raising two little boys who are strong, cheeky, brave and completely unaware of how extraordinary they are.
As they get closer to school age, my hopes for them are simple but powerful. I hope they feel included. I hope they are seen beyond their diagnosis. I hope their teachers understand that while CF is part of their story, it does not define their potential. I hope they grow up knowing their condition makes them resilient - not limited.
Awareness matters because when people understand cystic fibrosis, they understand why treatments are non-negotiable, why infection control is critical, and why research and support change lives.
Most of all, I hope my boys grow up in a world that continues to invest in better treatments, longer lives, and bigger futures for every child living with CF.”
