Regional Victoria has reached a major milestone in hearing health care. For the first time, cochlear implant surgery is now being offered closer to home for regional Victorians through a new partnership between The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and GV Health. This means people with severe hearing loss no longer need to travel to Melbourne for this life-changing surgery — a huge step forward in improving access and equity across the state!
At Helix Hearing Gippsland, we’re proud to be part of the Victorian Cochlear Implant Program (VCIP), helping provide local audiological support and care for people considering or living with cochlear implants. Through VCIP we work collaboratively to ensure patients in regional areas get the best possible hearing care and support right in their communities.
While cochlear implant surgery is not available in Gippsland, we hope that one day we’ll see surgeries available in more regional hospitals across Victoria — bringing truly local access to this life-changing option for even more people.
If you’re interested in learning more about cochlear implant services or how we can support you in the Gippsland region, get in touch with us at Helix Hearing.
The first patient to have cochlear implant surgery in a regional Victorian hospital, Mrs Sue Kleinert, has described it as “the best decision ever for me and also my family.”
