For too long, women have been expected to adapt to systems that were never designed with them in mind.

We now know that women are often underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or diagnosed years later than men. Especially in
Research has historically focused on male bodies, leaving gaps in understanding how conditions show up in women.👎🏻

Add to that, that we now know that women learn to “mask” their struggles, present differently to men and that their pain or symptoms are too often dismissed as emotional rather than medical.

The result?
Women make up nearly half of people living with disability, yet represent only around 37% of participants in support systems like the NDIS.

This International Women’s Day is a reminder that equality isn’t about asking women to work harder to be seen or heard.

It’s about reshaping the systems, research, and conversations so women are recognised, believed, supported, and represented.🙌🏻

Because progress happens when we stop asking women to fit the world — and start building a world that truly fits women. 💙

The NDIA is looking to participants to shape a new way designing and testing the new way of planning for the NDIS, with the first live testing of the new Support Needs Assessment underway.

What do we currently know?

1️⃣ Participant-led reform
The new planning approach within the NDIS is being tested by real participants, ensuring future plans are built around lived experience. Not assumptions.🙌🏻

2️⃣ Clearer, more transparent plans
Live Support Needs Assessments aim to create greater clarity, consistency and understanding around funded supports, making plan implementation smoother and more confident.👏🏻

3️⃣ Stronger collaboration ahead
With changes expected to roll out from mid-2026, Plan Managers will play a vital role in guiding, educating and supporting participants through the transition.💙
