This Friday 10th October is World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day raises awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilises efforts in support of mental health. It provides an opportunity for community members to talk about the importance of mental health, and what more needs to be done to make access to mental health care a reality for people worldwide. Mental Health Australia’s theme for World Mental Health Day 2025 is "Connect with your community".

💜 Friday August 29th is Wear It Purple Day 💜

The Mount Barker Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC) staff went purple this week to show our support for LGBTQIA+ youth. Wear it Purple Day promotes awareness and support for young LGBTQIA+ people in response to the overwhelming number of experiences of su***de and suicidality within this community.

At the MMHC we know social connection is a great way to support ourselves and each other. Especially those from marginalized community groups such as the LGBTQIA+ community. This is why we proudly partner with the Mount Barker Community Centre to deliver our LGBTQIA+ community group, run by staff with lived experience.

Wear It Purple Day is a day designed to advocate for and empower rainbow young people, as well as celebrate and promote the value of diversity and inclusion in community settings. It was founded by LGBTQIA+ young people in Sydney in 2010, following international reports of an “epidemic” of gay youth su***des. You can learn more about the history of the day by watching this video -https://youtu.be/aUFMvZ3l16E?si=7oyLLU8HORbeL6kg.

A Warm Welcome Through Art at Summit Health Centre

We’re thrilled to share that a vibrant new mural now graces the entrance of Summit Health Centre, thanks to the incredible talents of artists David Booth and Harley Hall.

This artwork beautifully weaves together elements that reflect our community and the connections we share across Country. The colours resonate with Summit Health’s identity and our links to neighbouring regions. Meeting place circles and U shapes symbolise community hubs and the journeys between them. Handprints represent our ancestors, kinship, and belonging, while the foot trails, alongside kangaroo and emu tracks, signify continuous movement forward and connect with the dreaming of Tjilbruke and Tarnda. The yellow wattle highlights the abundance of plant life, food, and medicine throughout the Adelaide Hills, with linking circles representing community, place, and ceremony.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to David and Harley for their meaningful contribution, and to our colleagues at Country SA PHN for their support in bringing this project to life. Next time you visit, take a moment to appreciate this stunning piece that welcomes all to our Summit Health Centre on Wellington Road, Mount Barker.
