With WildTalk - Caring for wildlife workers and volunteers – I'm on a streak! I've been a top fan for 3 months in a row. 🎉Been with them since the beginning. A very needed resource for wildlife carers/rescuers that is not government funded.

Would anyone local have a stack of newspapers for me in preparation for duckling orphan season? TIA

Here at Wildlife Victoria, we pride ourselves on helping all our native animals, both big and small, especially when they find themselves in sticky situations like this little guy. This little one is a Gecko - a native Victorian lizard. Sadly it became stuck on sticky fly paper, leaving it covered in a sticky glue. These sticky fly paper traps are actually illegal in Victoria. They contain a pesticide that can leache into an animal's skin. For this reason if you ever find any animal big or small caught in one of these illegal traps it is very important that you take it to a vet to be treated properly.

Heat stress can take alot out of our native animals and can really tire them. This little brushtail joey is exhausted after his time out in the sun. When our rescuer went to contain him, after he was found on the ground alone, all he wanted to do was curl up and sleep. If you see any animals struggling in the heat please try and move them into the shade and put some fresh water out for them. Please also call Wildlife Victoria for any animals you are concerned about on 8400 7300. This little guy is now in care with a lovely carer and doing well.

Looking for something new to take on in the new year? Why not help our native wildlife and become a wildlife rescuer or transporter with Wildlife Victoria! Anyone can do it, as long as they are over 18 and are able to attend our rescue and transport training. So if you want to help make a difference this year and save some lives big and small along the way then go to our website for further information on how you can become part of the wildlife victoria team https://www.wildlifevictoria.org.au/get-involved/volunteer

Spring myth: Handling birds will make their parents reject them. This little cutie is a juvenile Spotted Pardalote that was found on the ground. In order to check it was ok our trained rescuer had to pick it up, check its wings were ok and that it could perch. Not half an hour later the rescuer returned this little guy to mum and they were reunited without a glitch. While we don't recommend handling birds unless instructed by a trained wildlife rescuer, it is important to know that when assisting a bird you are not ruining its chance of being reunited with its parents.
