This, I feel sums up a lot of where we are at 🙏🏽
I too have seen our community rise up to help one another and that is what matters now, is that we help, however we can ❤️🌈💜
Difficult to string some sentences together at the moment here in Northern NSW. What do you even say?
On a local level the loss and devastation from this natural disaster is all consuming and just plain sad. On a national level it’s like the government has gone completely MIA Scott Morrison . On an International scale we’re confronted by war while still fumbling around trying to decide what normal life is. Oh yeah, don’t forget being barley a speck of dust in an infinite universe.
I keep coming back to this idea of ‘levels’ and how our minds jump from one to another. A lot to unpack.
Watching this community rally to aid one another is magical. Watching someone who only wants to help, so effortlessly and unknowingly throw away a family heirloom someone else has carried for 50 years is polarising. Watching the army arrive in Lismore to do photo shoots for media is confusing. Watching H***y Hicks and other music friends lose all their equipment after 2 years of no gigs is devastating. Watching Zephyr Horses enlist helicopters to feed stranded livestock is inspiring. Watching myself feel overwhelmed at the sheer magnitude of work that is ahead for the region is exhausting.
I think about how hard the Melbourne lock down must have felt. The family of Big Stu mourning his passing. The fires. Genocide of the indigenous. Refugees. I think about hurricane Katrina. The earthquake in Haiti. These floods are a fraction of that, yet it’s also no smaller. I have thought about Nungua, the town I visited in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. The disaster zones I’ve seen this week here look like everyday life there. I also think about how I’d choose floods over bombs any day 🇺🇦
All these levels out there. They fill our minds and take us down. For a moment If I strip all the levels away the most powerful force and healer is Love, Compassion and Kindness.
I am sharing love, compassion and kindness the only way I know right now with either a broom in the mud, a friendly chat, or making music. I hope you are too, in what ever way you know. Be kind on ya selves and to others out there.
Keep spreading that love and care.
We all need it and it’s free 💛
