This Women’s Health Week (1–5 September 2025) is about saying “YES” to your health and wellbeing. 💕 The 2025 theme is: ✨Say yes to you.✨

🌸 Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): More than PMS 🌸

📊 PMDD affects about 3–8% of women and people who menstruate.
😔 Symptoms include severe mood swings, depression, anxiety, irritability, and physical pain.
⏱ Unlike PMS, symptoms appear in the luteal phase (before a period) and stop when menstruation begins.

👉 How to get help:
👩‍⚕️ A GP is the best first step. They can:
✔️ Assess your symptoms
✔️ Rule out other conditions
✔️ Connect you to effective treatments (SSRIs, hormonal options, or specialist referrals)

🤯 Ever feel trapped in your own thoughts, replaying the same worries again and again? That’s overthinking — and it’s more than just “thinking a lot.”

🧠 Overthinking happens when brain networks that normally help us focus, daydream, and make decisions get out of sync. Instead of solving problems, your mind can get stuck in loops. This is common in anxiety, depression, ADHD, and even during times of high stress.

✨ The good news is there are ways out:
👩‍⚕️ Start with your GP – they can guide you on the right next steps.
🗣️ Talking to a psychologist can help you learn strategies (like CBT) to break thought cycles.
💊 Sometimes, seeing a psychiatrist alongside therapy can be useful if medication may help.
😴 And changes like improving sleep, reducing stress, and building healthy routines all make a difference.

If you’re struggling with overthinking, reaching out for support is the first step to finding some calm again. 🌿

🌟 Fun Fact Friday! 🌟

Did you know your brain has its own set of “batteries”? 🔋
They’re called mitochondria, and they don’t just power your cells; they play a HUGE role in mood, memory, energy, and resilience.

When your mitochondria are run down, you might feel it as:
😴 Fatigue
🌫️ Brain fog
😔 Low mood
😣 Struggling to cope with stress

The good news? You can recharge your brain’s batteries! ⚡
Here are 4 ways:
✅ Move your body (exercise = new mitochondria!)
✅ Eat smart (omega-3s, vitamins, good fats)
✅ Sleep & de-stress (repair mode for your brain)
✅ Certain supplements & treatments can also help

😴 Up to 80% of people with ADHD struggle with sleep. It’s more than just restlessness; ADHD can throw off your body’s sleep rhythm, making it hard to fall asleep, stay asleep, or feel rested in the morning.

Poor sleep can make ADHD symptoms worse, affecting focus, mood, and energy.

Common issues include:
✅ Staying up too late (night owl habits)
✅ Restless legs or racing thoughts
✅ Trouble falling asleep
✅ Sleep disruption from medications

What can help:
✅ Stick to a regular sleep schedule
✅ Avoid screens and caffeine at night
✅ Wind down with calming activities
✅ See your GP for advice -treatment options like melatonin, iron, or adjusting your meds may help

Better sleep can be life-changing. Don’t ignore it: talk to your GP and get support.

💬 What is PTSD really, and how do we treat it better today?
Many people think PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is just about “bad memories” after trauma. But there’s a lot more to it. Understanding it better means more effective help.

Dr Sanil Rege, psychiatrist and founder of Vita Health Care, recently shared a powerful update on what we now know about PTSD. Here are the key takeaways:

🔍 1. PTSD affects the brain, not just the mind
PTSD can change how the brain works, especially parts that handle memory, emotions, and fear. That’s why people might feel on edge, numb, or easily overwhelmed long after the trauma has passed.

🧠 2. Everyone experiences trauma differently
Not everyone who goes through something traumatic will get PTSD. It depends on many things, like your past experiences, support network, genetics, and even how your brain processes stress.

💡 3. Treatment needs to fit the person, not just the diagnosis
There’s no “one-size-fits-all” solution. Some people respond well to talk therapy, others may benefit from medication, and some need support with sleep, relationships, or body-based therapies.

✅ The good news?
PTSD is treatable. And the more we understand the science behind it, the more we can help people recover, not just cope.

If you or someone you care about is struggling after trauma, you're not alone. Help is here when you’re ready. 💙
