World Children’s Day – 20 November 🌏

Each year, we celebrate the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It’s a day to protect children’s rights, support their wellbeing, and make sure their voices are heard for a brighter future.

This World Children’s Day, UNICEF Australia invites every child to speak up through A Minute of Loudness! Kids are encouraged to share their ideas on how to make the world a better place for all children—especially when it comes to play.

Play is essential. It helps children learn, grow, connect, and heal—no matter who they are or where they live. Through play, children make friends, explore the world, and feel happy. 💛

If your around this Saturday drop into Bunnings Bayswater and support our wonderful kindergarten by buying a sausage in bread. We will be out the front all day cooking and selling snags and drinks (cash and eftpos available).

We will be at the Mt Evelyn Street Party tomorrow. Pop by and say hi, we'll be situated near Mt Evelyn Memorial Preschool who are celebrating their 80th birthday! (right where the shuttle bus drop you off!)
Dress for wet weather!

The shuttle bus runs from Yarra Hills secondary college, just behind us, so park and make your way to the bus stops if need be!

This past week at Fernhill Preschool, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Holly's Bees. Holly taught us about the life cycle of a bee, as well as how honey is made and how bees live in their hive. The children had so many questions and we even got to taste some yummy honey.

Today, some of our 4 year old kindergarten group from Fernhill Preschool went on an excursion to the Kew Traffic School. The children were taught about road safety, how to cross the road safely and how to share the road. They were then offered the chance to choose between bikes and scooters and rode around the traffic school "roads". This is always a fun and interactive day for all and well worth a trip for anyone interested.

This week at Fernhill Preschool we are celebrating Book Week with some special dress up days as well as literacy themed activities linked to some of the books we've been reading at kinder.

On Friday the 8th of August we were very lucky to have a Police visit from two of our 3YO kinder parents, who are both a part of our wonderful Victorian Police Force. They brought along a real Police car for the children to sit in and talked to us all about what Police do and how they keep us safe in our community.

We love community engagement at Fernhill Preschool and value moments like this, that help the children connect with the broader world they live in.

This NAIDOC Week, Yarra Ranges Kindergartens proudly celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We’re especially excited NAIDOC Week is celebrating 50 Years! This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” is all about celebrating the amazing stories, knowledge, and culture being passed down to children — our future leaders. 🌟

We honour the strength, wisdom and connection to Country of our First Nations communities. At YRK, we are committed to respectful learning, inclusion and partnership — not just during NAIDOC Week, but all year round.

MECEC is home to two beautiful outdoor yards, designed for play, exploration and learning.

All groups share both spaces throughout the year, which include sandpits, swings, covered decking, and climbing equipment.

🌿 The 3-year-old yard features a cubby house, slide, basketball ring and bike track.
🌱 The 4-year-old and mixed-age yard includes monkey bars, a pirate ship and a veggie patch.

🦕 Dino fun at Montrose!

The children have loved exploring Dinosaur Land, building small worlds, telling stories, and learning through play.

Songs, puppets and stories helped bring the theme to life and extend their literacy learning.
