💫 This year’s theme for World Mental Health Day is “Connect with your community”. 💫

💚 The Limestone Coast does lots of great community connection work, but there’s always more we can do!

🌿 The objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilise efforts in support of mental health.

🌿 World Mental Health Day provides an opportunity for community members and people working in mental health to talk about the importance of mental health, and what more needs to be done to make access to mental health care a reality for people worldwide.

🤝 Connecting with our communities – the people and places where we feel safe, seen and heard – can help us feel cared for and supported, which is good for our mental health.

✅ A community can take any shape. Community can mean:
* friends, loved ones, your mob
* multicultural centre
* community choir
* community garden
* book club
* running group
* local volunteer group
* LGBTQIA+ group

💚 At home, work, school, in the community or online, on 10 October, Mental Health Australia encourages everyone to have conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, reach out for support – and connect with our communities.

🌿 Mental Health Month is a national event that happens every October that aims to improve community awareness and interest in mental health and wellbeing.

🤝 The 2025 theme for South Australia’s Mental Health Month is ‘Connecting When It Counts’.

💬 Quite often when we talk about mental health we talk about it when we’re not travelling well. But mental health isn’t just about tough times — it’s about building meaningful connections throughout life’s pivotal moments. Connecting When It Counts reminds us that timely conversations about our mental wellbeing can make all the difference.

🌟 Outreach & In-Service availability to increase flexibility.

📣 We’re proud to share that we are taking new mentoring, therapy assistant & support work referrals. We have a new male team member commencing with us who will have immediate capacity to begin supporting clients!

💚 We can support people of all ages and abilities, with a focus on:
✨ Building confidence, self-esteem & self-worth
✨ Reducing isolation & creating meaningful connections
✨ Developing social skills & relationships
✨ Exploring community activities & personal interests
✨ Supporting life skills, wellbeing & social inclusion

💡 Mentoring can take many forms – for example from enjoying hobbies and outings, to discovering new interests, or simply providing consistent connection and support.

✅ As with all of our staff, our male mentor has all required clearances, engages in ongoing training & development opportunities, and receives clinical oversight from our Accredited Mental Health Social Workers. This ensures client-centred and flexible support that is overseen by senior staff & tailored to individual needs.

💚We would like to introduce Nikki, who has been working with FeelBetter for two years now. We are very lucky to have Nikki on board as part of our growing therapy team! Nikki's bio is below:

"Hi I'm Nikki,

I began my journey at FeelBetter Limestone Coast in an administrative role, but as our services expanded, I transitioned into a multifaceted position as a Therapy Assistant, Mentor, and Support Worker. In this capacity, I work primarily with children and adolescents, focusing on capacity building tailored to each individual’s unique strengths, needs, and goals.

My approach is grounded in empathy, adaptability, and evidence-informed strategies, supported by my completion of Play Therapy training . I am also a proud member of Allied Health Assistants National Association reflecting my commitment to professional standards and ongoing development and hold my first aid certification.

I’m preparing to commence my Bachelor of Social Work to deepen my knowledge and expand my ability to support others in a therapeutic and community setting. Helping people has always been a driving force for me, and I’m excited to continue turning that passion into meaningful, long-term impact.

Fun fact: I originally intended to pursue a career in forensic anthropology, but my path shifted after joining the team at FeelBetter Limestone Coast—where I discovered my true calling in helping others thrive".
