IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital maternity services

Today St John of God Health Care announced we will be adopting a new north / south model of maternity care across our Perth metropolitan private hospitals.

Under the new model, St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital maternity services will permanently transfer to St John of God Subiaco Hospital at 6am on Wednesday 20 December 2023 to create a northern maternity centre of excellence.

This will complement St John of God Murdoch Hospital’s centre of excellence, which will continue to service Perth’s southern communities.

Making this transition smooth for our mums and families currently booked to have babies at Mt Lawley is our priority.

Consolidating private maternity services at two sites will enable us to continue to develop and enhance our services with our highly skilled workforce.

If you are booked to have your baby at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital from 20 December onwards, our team will contact you shortly via SMS, phone call and email to discuss what this means for you. All births prior to Wednesday 20 December 2023 will continue at Mt Lawley Hospital as planned.

In the meantime, these FAQs on our website will hopefully answer any questions: https://www.sjog.org.au/our-locations/st-john-of-god-mt-lawley-hospital/news/news/2023/11/15/09/36/new-maternity-model-of-care-for-perth

Thank you for your understanding as we work with you through this transition.

This came out in the news today and it totally reasonates with how, we at COGSS, are hoping to support more women going through menopause. At COGSS, we take a more holistic approach to menopause care and it's not a one size fits all. Whether it's hormone, nutritional, physical or mental therapy, we believe that listening and understanding what patients want and what they are going through is key to customising a treatment plan that works for them.

If you are in your late 40s, early 50s or experiencing menopausal-like symptoms and unsure about what to do or whom to talk to, come and have a chat with one of our doctors. If you are struggling with menopause, have seen multiple doctors, tried all the different hormone therapies but still not feeling better, book in to see one of our doctors who will help you review your plan with you and work out a more suitable way forward.

Whilst many women suffer through menopause quietly on their own, you shouldn't have to. Feel free to contact us at COGSS if you have questions.

The role hormones play during menopause and the effect they have on women’s psychology needs more attention from medical professionals, women and medical experts say.

A very warm welcome to Dr Sunita Chelva! Dr Chelva is a Women's Health Specialist GP who is very passionate about menopause medicine. With over 15 years of GP experience coupled with her personal menopausal journey, she is well placed to understand her patients' conditions and struggles and to provide the most suitable care. Dr Kenneth Nathan and Dr Chelva both firmly believe that at present, there is still a lack of help and education dedicated to women struggling with menopause. Together, Dr Nathan and Dr Chelva hope that women will no longer have to wait months before they receive the care and support they need and 2023 will see our team spending more time and effort educating clinicians and the public about menopause and dispelling the myths around it and its treatment. Once again, a very warm welcome to the lovely Dr Sunita Chelva. ❤️

To all the lovely ladies out there....Happy Menopause Day!

Menopause presents both physical and mental challenges and women are still relatively ill-informed about the topic. Many have yet to seek help from a healthcare professional whilst others believe it's something they should put up with. Many are also unaware of the help and support available to them.

Here at COGSS, we have something very special planned for women in Perth who are going through menopause or about to. Watch this page....we'll be making a very exciting announcement soon.

Have a lovely day today ladies!

Happy Friday everyone! Here's a little cuteness for you on this gorgeous sunny morning... 👶🏼😻

Guys... meet Elyan! 😍
This gorgeous boy has just turned six months old (he is 20 days old in the first photo with Dr Nathan).
Priscilla and Bismark attended out VBAC workshop a few weeks ago with Elyan and it's safe to say that we were all going ga-ga over him and lining up to have a hold.
Can't wait to see you guys again! 🧡

Our Story

Dr Kenneth J Nathan has spent 25 years of his life looking after mothers during their pregnancy and delivery. He has been helping female patients manage common to challenging conditions ranging from abnormal smear tests, symptoms of heavy periods, pelvic pain, menopause, urinary incontinence, to weakness and prolapse of the pelvic floor.

Dr Nathan dedicated the first two decades of his career to the public health system around Northern Ireland and Tasmania where he was the consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist and labour ward lead obstetrician prior to his move to Perth.

He joined the Armadale Kelmscott Memorial Hospital (WA) in 2012 and together with his team and like-minded colleagues at the hospital, they achieved the highest successful vaginal birth after Caesarean (VBAC) rate in Australia in 2014. In search of new challenges and in his continued pursuit for better care for his patients, he is now choosing to work independently.

Dr Nathan has been responsible for delivering over 20,000 babies in the span of his entire career as an obstetrician and gynaecologist. His years of experience and advanced knowledge means he is well-equipped to support high-risk pregnancy patients. He has always been a huge advocate of natural birth and VBACs and continues to work with mothers-to-be to achieve their birthing choices. After all, Dr Nathan has one of the lowest C-section rates in Western Australia.
