Hi all, a quick February availability update for Alliance Clinics. In-clinic & telehealth services are available now for most disciplines.

We would also like to introduce Emily, a new Dietitian joining our growing Alliance Clinics team in Mackay. For a limited time, we have a 75% discount offer for new clients for one appointment with Emily (see below for details).

Emily is an Accredited Practising Dietitian & Nutritionist with experience in patient-centred nutrition care across acute, community, and outreach settings. Emily provides tailored nutrition education and supports patients to make appropriate food choices within dietary restrictions.

Meet Cecil, a Mackay man whose life changed when he experienced a stroke. It was a challenging time, but Cecil faced it with determination and courage.

Whilst experiencing changes in all domains of life, one of his biggest goals? Regaining his ability to speak and communicate, as prior to engaging with Speech Pathology he was unable to communicate.
He has been working tirelessly to produce words and phrases again. Every week has been a step forward, and his progress is worth celebrating.

Along the way, Cecil discovered a new passion: bee keeping! Cecil is proud to sell raw honey to the Mackay community, sharing the sweetness of his hard work🐝

In Speech Pathology sessions and with his support worker Hien, Cecil practises words like “honey” and “bee hive”, and phrases such as “I sell honey”, all to help him confidently talk about his business. His therapy goals and his new venture go hand in hand, and the results speak for themselves.

His determination and positivity are inspiring, and his journey shows resilience and dedication. If you’re in Mackay, keep an eye out for Cecil’s honey, it is not only local, but also has an inspiring back story. You can find a link to his honey here:

I always knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field. As a therapist, I had always envisioned myself working in geriatrics or with adult participants, particularly in hospital settings. What I love about this profession is that you can be a therapist in so many different contexts. There’s always something new to learn, and right now I’m enriching my practice by working with children. After all, therapy can also happen with toys and bubbles in the session!

I'm a very active person. After work, you can find me in dance classes, gymnastics, or practising aerial sports. But some days you can also find me on the couch just watching TV.

I demonstrate OT in action with the people I support by being fully present and engaged in every session. I’m a committed therapist who always tries to make activities meaningful and enjoyable, so that participants feel motivated and involved in their own progress. I like to do fun and creative sessions that not only focus on building skills but also bring a sense of confidence and joy to the process. I believe that therapy works best when people feel supported, respected, and inspired - and that’s what I try to bring into every interaction.

Occupational Therapy is like being a bridge builder, we create pathways that connect people to the meaningful parts of their lives. When illness, injury, or disability creates a gap between where someone is and where they want to be, we design supports, adaptations, and strategies to help them cross safely and confidently.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐝 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐭?
My advice to someone thinking about becoming an Occupational Therapist would be to stay curious, compassionate, and grounded in what really matters to the person you’re supporting. OT is both an art and a science, it’s about combining evidence-based reasoning with creativity and empathy to help people do the things that give their lives meaning. Always take the time to truly understand the person and break activities down through task analysis, that’s where you’ll uncover the real barriers and opportunities for change. And don’t overcomplicate things; often the most effective solutions are simple, practical, and focused on what works in real life. Every small step forward is meaningful, and seeing someone achieve something they once thought impossible is what makes this profession so rewarding.

For me, “OT in Action” means being flexible, curious, and collaborative in every interaction. I demonstrate this by adapting my approach to suit each person’s unique strengths, interests, and goals, whether that means using play-based strategies with a child, embedding functional skill practice into daily routines, or problem-solving barriers alongside families and support teams. It’s about translating theory into real-life, meaningful change through creativity, empathy, and practical action.

"This week, we celebrate the heart of Occupational Therapy. A profession built on purpose, creativity, and human connection. As we honour OT Week, can I please ask you all to take a moment to recognise and celebrate Alliance Clinics’ amazing team of OTs.

We acknowledge the OTs who came before us in this organisation, those who laid the foundations, developed the early processes, and helped shape the culture we continue to build on today. Their work created the strong platform from which our current team continues to grow, evolve, and expand our impact.

To our current team, thank you for being the living expression of OT in action. You bring our values to life every day, enabling participation, fostering independence, and creating space for people to thrive. You work across diverse areas, respond with insight and compassion, and adapt creatively to meet the unique needs of every participant.
