💫 OT WEEK 2025 💫

5 minutes with OT, Kirsty:

What’s an occupation that you can’t live without?

Without a doubt, yoga. It challenges me physically and mentally, and brings balance to my life.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

My highlight has been starting Together Thriving and growing a team of brilliant OT’s. It’s enabled us to support many more families than I ever thought was possible.

What part of your work do you find most rewarding?

As my time as an OT has progressed I’m most rewarded by watching other therapists grow and develop, both professionally and personally. It’s such a privilege to be part of their journey.

🌟 OT WEEK 2025 🌟

5 minutes with OT, Emily:

How would you describe your job to a 5 year old?

My job is to help make tricky things easier. We get to play lots of fun games together that can help your hands, body and brain work as a team. This might be practising to play with friends, learning how to hold a pencil or tying shoe laces!

What part of your work do you find the most rewarding?

Celebrating all wins! Both as a TT team and with our little kiddos. Everyone deserves to be celebrated.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone entering your profession?

Find an OT pathway that ignites your inner spark and continues to make it grow! Equally, find a team that is in your corner cheering and supporting you on.

✨ OT WEEK 2025 ✨

5 minutes with OT, Bella:

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Everyone is doing the best they can. When they can do better, they will.” It is a reminder to approach every person, including myself, with empathy and understanding.

How would you describe your job to a five-year-old?

I help people learn to do the things they need and want to do every day; like getting dressed, playing, or looking after themselves, so they can feel proud and confident.

What part of your work do you find the most rewarding?

I love the little wins, when clients and families are so excited to share their progress, whether it’s tying shoelaces for the first time, picking up a toothbrush, or scoring a try in football. Those moments remind me why I love what I do.

🌟 OT WEEK 2025 🌟

5 minutes with OT, Hannah:

1. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, either way you are going to be right. A saying my Dad says a lot and it always reminds me of him.

🌟

2. What part of your work do you find the most rewarding?

🌟

The smile children have on their faces when they achieve a goal they have been working so hard to achieve or when they do a task or activity that they first thought they could not do. I always feel so proud in these moments.

🌟

3. What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Presenting at the World Occupational Therapy conference a few years ago. I have recently begun hosting students for university placements and that has been a genuine privilege being a smart part of their journeys in becoming qualified OT’s.

💙 Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads, uncles, and father-figures

We see you - the ones who show up with patience, humour, and love, even on the hard days. 💭

You’re the quiet encouragers, the sensory play partners, the late-night Googlers, and the “let’s try again tomorrow” kind of dads.

Today we celebrate the way you love your kids exactly as they are. That’s what matters most. 💫

🧠💬 Speech Pathology Week 2025
Theme: Impact Through Communication

As a neurodivergent-affirming speech pathologist in paediatric private practice, I believe every child deserves to be heard, understood, and celebrated — just as they are. 🌈

My role isn’t to “fix” communication — it’s to nurture authentic connection, support self-expression, and honour the unique ways each child interacts with the world.

From one-on-one sessions to group-based adventures, we explore communication through what truly matters to our clients — like battling dragons or building a pixelated world block by block. 🐉🧱

🎮 Minecraft and 🎲 Dungeons & Dragons social skills groups aren’t just games — they’re powerful spaces where kids can:

🤝 Connect with peers

💬 Express feelings

🚦 Set and respect boundaries

⚖️ Manage conflict

💫 Build meaningful connections

🌟 Grow confidence in being themselves

This week, I’m proud to celebrate the impact of communication that is joyful, meaningful, and deeply human.

🗣️✨ Speech Pathology Week 2025
Theme: Impact Through Communication

Every voice matters. 💬
Every story deserves to be heard. 📣
Every connection begins with communication. 🤝

This week, we celebrate the powerful role speech pathologists play in helping people connect, learn, and thrive -one word, one sound, one breakthrough at a time.

Whether it’s helping a child find their first words, helping someone tell their stories, or building confidence in social settings - communication changes lives.

🎉 Happy 8th Birthday, Together Thriving! 🎉

Eight years ago, Together Thriving started as one woman with a vision: to create a space where neurodivergent kids are understood, celebrated, and supported - and where parents feel empowered, not overwhelmed. 🌱

Since then, we’ve:
💛 Supported hundreds of families in Mudgee and beyond
💛 Built a team who lead with heart, empathy, and evidence-based practice
💛 Challenged outdated, deficit-based approaches and championed strengths, always

It hasn’t all been smooth sailing - we’ve navigated big changes, tough seasons, and more than a few 4am report-writing sessions 😅 - but every challenge has shaped who we are today: a connected, values-driven team making a real difference.

To every family, child, team member, and supporter who has been part of our journey - thank you. This milestone belongs to all of us. 💙 Here’s to the next chapter, and to a world where every neurodivergent child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

📚🎉 Our School Smart group wrapped up these school holidays - and wow, what a special few days it was!

Across the week, we watched kids grow in confidence, connection, and those oh-so-important school-ready skills:

✏️ Singing along, opening snacks, holding pencils with pride
🧠 Building emotional regulation & independence
💬 Practising communication & navigating new routines

The best part? They did it all in a calm, neuroaffirming space—supported by therapists who get them. 💙

To the families who joined us - thank you for trusting us with such a big milestone. And to the kids? Your energy and enthusiasm was priceless. See you next holidays!

We can’t wait to run it again!

👖💙 Today’s not just about denim - it’s about making a difference.

At Together Thriving, we’re proud to wear our jeans in support of Jeans for Genes Day, raising awareness and vital funds for children living with genetic conditions.

As a team that walks alongside kids and their families every day, we know how powerful research, advocacy, and early support can be.

To every family navigating the unknown, to every child who’s rewriting the story of what’s possible - we see you, and we stand with you.

Let’s keep building a future where all kids are understood, supported, and celebrated. 💙

👂🧠✋ What every parent should know about sensory processing differences

It’s not just about loud noises or picky eating.

Sensory processing affects how your child experiences the world - and how their brain responds to it.

Some kids are sensory seekers: always moving, crashing, touching everything.

Some are sensory sensitive: covering their ears, avoiding textures, melting down over “small” things.

Some are a bit of both - and it can look different every single day.

💡 This isn’t a discipline issue. It’s a nervous system thing.

When the world feels too much or not enough, behaviours are your child’s way of coping.

And the goal isn’t to “toughen them up” - it’s to understand what their sensory system needs, and support it in ways that feel safe and empowering.

✨ Sensory differences aren’t bad. They’re just different. And with the right support, your child can thrive.

🗣 Have you noticed sensory patterns in your child—or yourself? What’s one thing that helped you make sense of it?

🎒😩 After-school meltdowns are real - and you’re not imagining it.

So many neurodivergent kids hold it together all day at school…
…and the second they walk through the door?
Boom. It all comes out.
Tears. Tantrums. Silence. Shutdowns. Hyper energy.

This isn’t “naughty” behaviour - it’s a sign your child is emotionally spent.
💡 That’s why after-school regulation matters.

Try this gentle reset routine:
🧘 Quiet, low-demand time (not a debrief!)
🥪 Snack + hydration - low blood sugar doesn’t help anyone
🎧 Noise-reducing headphones, weighted cushions, or a sensory corner
🌳 Movement or outdoor play to shake off the school-day tension
💬 When they’re ready: connection without pressure

Some kids need cuddles.
Some need quiet.
Some need to bounce, swing, or run wild.

✨ The goal isn’t to fix their feelings - it’s to create a safe space to land.
