Thank you AMA (NSW) for this fabulous recognition. We as a community driven NFP appreciate your support in getting our initiative out there to the GPs we're trying to attract!

PEOPLE POWER: The towns of Mudgee and Gulgong in the state's central west were desperate for general practitioners.
In a bid to attract them, Kate Day, pictured at left, led a robust community campaign, supported by local business operators who threw in cash incentives and personalised help.
The push is now paying off, but why are our regional and remote residents being left to fight their own healthcare battles?
We talk to those involved in the next edition of NSW Doctor, out soon.

Did you know Mudgee was the first town in Australia to turn PINK for the McGrath Foundation during ? πŸ’„β€πŸ‘›πŸ¦©πŸ’Ÿ

This year marks the 10th year of Pink Up Mudgee and the spirit of the 'Pink Up Your Town' movement has spread throughout the Mid-Western Region, with Pink Up Gulgong joining in on the action once again! 🍨🌷🌸🍧πŸ₯

All funds raised this year will go towards funding more McGrath Cancer Care Nurses for communities in need, because no one should go through cancer without care.

Rural Australians are missing out on $1,090.47 in healthcare funding per person, every single year. That’s a staggering $8.35 billion shortfall nationally.

This isn’t just a statistic - it translates to:
⚠️ Fewer doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in country towns.
⚠️ Longer wait times for basic and specialist care.
⚠️ Increased travel and out-of-pocket costs for families already under pressure.
⚠️ Widening health inequities between the city and the bush.

Behind the numbers are real people. Nearly a third of our population - 7.3 million rural Australians - are being left behind by a health system not designed for them.

We cannot accept that postcode determines health outcomes. We need fair funding, systemic reform and region-driven solutions that give rural and remote Australians the same access to quality care as their city counterparts.

The National Rural Health Alliance is calling for urgent action to close this gap.

Did you know that the town of Gulgong has 9 AED units that have 24/7 availability, and 16 units available within business hours.

The Gulgong Heart Of Gold program is another great example of how strong community spirit and initiative can make a huge difference.

Having a GP back in the town after 18 months has also restored the heartbeat of the town.

This month, the town is bathed in yellow in support of the Heart of Gulgong Program.

Thank you and for again highlighting the immense issues we're facing in the Mid-Western Region with our current doctor storage.

Yes, we've had great success with two new GPs moving to the region, but we still have a long way to go, with Mudgee surgeries still closed to new patients.

We're so grateful to any journalists or producers bringing light to this grassroots initiative.

Together, we can help bring healthcare home.
