MONTHLY STUDIO THEME: Samtoṣa ~ contentment 🌿
This month at The Dharma House, we are exploring Samtoṣa (pronounced ‘santosha’) ~ contentment.
In the Yoga Sūtras, the great Sage Patañjali teaches Samtoṣa as one of the Niyamas: inner observances that support a balanced and meaningful life. At its heart, Samtoṣa is the ability to experience ease and appreciation exactly where we are, without needing everything to be different in order to feel at peace.
As we move toward the end of the year, life naturally gets faster, fuller, and a little louder. It’s easy to slip into striving ~ more plans, more pressure, and expectations. Samtoṣan invites us to soften that urge and find joy in simplicity: the breath, a quiet moment, the feeling of arriving on the mat, or the calm pause between movements.
Contentment doesn’t mean settling or giving up on growth. It means recognising the goodness that already exists, and letting that be enough for a moment. In practice, Samtoṣa feels like exhaling deeply, softening the shoulders, releasing the jaw, and letting ourselves rest in the present.
Throughout November, our classes will offer space to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the quiet sweetness of everyday life.
We look forward to exploring Samtoṣa with you! 🌿
