Carla Chesters - Acupuncture Acupuncture IS the drug free alternative. Eg: Do I work on slipped discs? The answer lies in the very foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Carla has been in clinical practice now (despite a brief sabbatical) since 2007 and enjoys all aspects of the human body and it’s response to acupuncture. She has special interests in:
• fertility /reproductive health (including IVF and assisted fertility programs)
• arthritis
• chronic and acute joint pain
• lower back pain

“I am often asked if I ‘do’ a certain type of acupuncture. If there is pain we ease it. If there is obstruction, we clear it. If there is deficiency, we build it. If there is excess, we reduce it. All aspects of human health can be broken down to a Traditional Chinese Medicine viewpoint and this is how I treat. What this means, is that two people both presenting with lower back pain, may be treated very differently from each other. The presenting symptom is pain, but the cause of the pain is unlikely to be exactly the same as each other. Hence, we treat the cause which makes acupuncture a very unique and successful way of treating”.

Another year has come to a close. Words simply can’t express how grateful I am to do what I do. I am one of the luckiest people in the world that gets to do what I love every single day, and I couldn’t do it without you! Thank you all for being a part of my family. My turn on the table! My bad knee, (which used to be my good knee) has been giving me a bit of stick recently. Very swollen with sharp pain 🙄. The nature of the pain (sharp) tells me that the blood isn’t moving properly. So I started with the famous knee points, blood points and other ah shi (painful points but not on a meridian) and heat. Lots of heat. When I pulled the needles out, one point spontaneously bled. You all know I love a bit of vampire action, so I cupped it. Pic in comments so don’t look if you’re squeamish. My pain is 70% better and I can’t believe I didn’t do this earlier! Plumbers have leaky taps and all that 😂

Gallbladder 21. Great point for neck, shoulder pain and one I use regularly. HOWEVER this point is contraindicated in pregnancy as it can initiate labour. So,unless you are ready for the baby to come out (ideally post 38 weeks) please don’t let anyone needle this point on you. (Side note, Ahpra registered acupuncturists know about the contraindicated points- but lots of people are using needles these days!) 🌸🌸

Helllllooo! Just letting you all know I’m heading to China at the end of next week 🥳🥳. It’s a bucket list item for me (as I’m sure you can imagine). I have a visit to a Traditional Chinese Medicine school scheduled, so I’m VERY excited about that. I’m back in clinic on the 23rd of September but available to make bookings from the 17th.
