It’s been super hot today… and honestly, the last thing I feel like doing is turning on the stove

Think your "Healthy" protein bar is safe? Think again.

We blame gluten, we blame dairy, but we ignore the industrial ingredients lurking in 70% of supermarket foods.

You might think you are eating clean, but if your diet relies on Ultra-Processed Foods (UPFs), you are consuming daily ""gut triggers"" that act like wrecking balls to your microbiome.

These foods are engineered to be hyper-palatable, but your gut doesn't recognize them as actual food.

Here are the top 3 hidden offenders I tell my clients to avoid:

1️⃣ Emulsifiers (e.g., Carrageenan, Polysorbate 80, Soy Lecithin): Think of them as detergents. They are added to improve texture, but they strip away the protective mucous layer of your gut lining, leading to ""leaky gut.""
2️⃣ Artificial Sweeteners (e.g., Sucralose, Aspartame): You might be saving calories, but you are causing chaos in your microbiome. These confuse your gut bacteria, leading to an imbalance (dysbiosis) that causes bloating and gas.
3️⃣ Refined Seed Oils (e.g., Canola, Soybean, Sunflower oil): Often highly processed and oxidized, these can be major drivers of systemic inflammation in the digestive tract.

Stop looking at the calorie count and start looking at the ingredient list. Real food doesn't need a chemistry degree to understand.

Is your ""healthy"" grocery haul lying to you?

I’m usually the one telling everyone to check their labels, but even I was hit with a mix of horror and amusement during my shop today.

Just because it says "Organic" or it’s a "Health Brand" like Macro, doesn’t mean it gets a free pass. Here’s the tea on what I found:

Organic Sultanas: Why is there sunflower oil in here? If you’re trying to cut out industrial seed oils, your ""healthy"" snack just failed.

Australian Sultanas: These contain canola and sunflower oils. If they aren’t organic, are we looking at GMOs and high-heat processing? No thanks.

Coconut Milk: The organic version has water and thickeners. Meanwhile, brands like Ayam (not even labeled organic!) have zero thickeners.

The good news? The desiccated coconut and pecans were just… coconut and pecans. Simple as it should be.

Let this be your reminder: The front of the pack is marketing. The back of the pack is the truth.

Your "healthy" high-fibre meal prep could be the reason you look 6 months pregnant by the afternoon.

We are told to eat more fibre for gut health. But if you have a sensitive gut, jumping straight into giant salads and bean bowls (the wrong fibre) is like sending a tsunami down a clogged drain. It causes a massive "traffic jam" (aka: painfully trapped gas and stool).

The trick isn’t to avoid fibre, it’s to support your gut by using the right fibre.

When I prep protein rich meals for myself, I follow two non-negotiables:
1️⃣ Cooked over Raw: Stir fry your veggies in saturated fat like ghee or duck fat - much easier for a struggling gut to break down than raw roughage.
2️⃣ The Hydration Rule: For every increase in fiber, you must increase water. Make sure you increase your fluids away from meal time so your digestive juices remain at full force.
