Invitational language is our jam. We aren't here to boss you around. And you know what that means? Even when you've got next to nothing left in the tank, you can still come and practice, taking only what you need.

It's one of the key reasons why so many people have been able to stick to a regular yoga practice with us, when nothing else has ever stuck ❤️🤝

Often when students start yoga they reference feeling unsure if they’re “doing it right.” At Stone’s Throw Yoga, we want to remind you there is no one “right” way to do yoga.

Trying to perfect your practice will only pull you away from what yoga is really about. When we fixate on getting the "right” shape, mastering a specific variation of a pose, or hitting the aesthetic version we’ve seen online our focus becomes less about presence and experience. The practice becomes another place to measure our worth instead of a space to meet ourselves honestly.

Perfection lives in the mind and it can become a vicious cycle as we analyse, judge, and strive. Yoga invites you into your body, and to observer your mind. This is where life-changing awareness resides. It isn’t a sport, but an ongoing conversation with yourself as you become aware of your energy, emotions, and sensations in the body.

The goal isn’t to 'perfect' your practice, it’s to let your practice perfect the way you listen, feel, and respond to your life.

The wellness industry loves to sell a cinematic transformation from chaos to calm through rigid routines, discipline that ignores your energy, and expensive courses… but the real magic isn’t found in any of these things.

What you’re probably seeking is nervous system nourishment, genuine connection, and the ability to feel empowered in your body.

At Stone’s Throw Yoga, our classes are built on sustainable practices that honour your body’s capacity, your season of life, and your energy on any given day. We believe that true wellbeing isn’t found in always seeking intensity - it’s built slowly through habits and movements that you can sustain long term.

We keep it simple, grounded, and real so you can continue practising well into your 80’s, like some of our incredible students!

Things we don’t stand for at Stone’s Throw Yoga:

😰 “No pain, no gain” mentality:
You know your body better than anyone else, and we encourage you to observe how the practice feels and decide whether you need more, or less. Honouring your energy and capacity is not a weakness, but a strength.

☢️ Toxic positivity:
We don’t subscribe to the “good vibes only” mentality. We hold space for your messiest self, not just your highlight reel.

😵‍💫 Overcomplicating:
No Sanskrit quiz required. We want you to drop into your internal experience, rather than being stuck in your head trying to decipher what the facilitator is offering. We acknowledge and respect yogic traditions AND we want to make the class as accessible as possible.

🧐 Fashion policing:
Trackies, pyjama pants, mismatched socks - all highly encouraged. We don’t want you feeling pressured to appear like you just stepped out of a Lululemon campaign to come to a class.

💯 Perfectionism:
There is no “right way” to do yoga. You’re allowed to wobble, come in and out of a shape, or choose something different. This is YOUR practice.

👀 Comparison:
You’re not here to look or move like anyone else. You are not being measured against anyone else.

😫 Ignoring rest:
Rest is a necessary part of the practice, not a reward for pushing ‘hard enough’.

🤭 Taking ourselves too seriously:
Expect giggles, accidental farts, deep sighs, dog p**p puzzles (if you know, you know), and the occasional bad joke and f-bomb.

We hear that sigh of relief when you walk in the front door. That sense of letting go of the outside world while you take off your shoes. It's an honour to be that space for you ❤️🙏

Give it a try and tell us what you think!

First time you do this, keep the resistance of the legs low-level and see how it feels. Once you've practiced a few times, assuming things are feeling okay, you can start to ramp up the intensity of that resistance to build even more strength 💪

You can use props to make this more accessible, too:

• If it feels like your knees are in your armpits, sit on a cushion to elevate your hips

• If you can't comfortably get your elbows to touch your legs, place something in between, like yoga blocks or even a couple of books!

Here's to happy, buttery hips! 🧈

Yoga can go a long way in supporting those living with PTSD and complex trauma. At Stone’s Throw Yoga, the practice goes far beyond movement. Through trauma-sensitive teaching, compassionate instructors, and a range of practices from gentle Yin to dynamic Vinyasa - students are guided to reconnect with themselves in a way that feels empowering and supportive.

As Jarrod shares below, after decades of trying different therapies it was yoga that offered lasting change, helping him rediscover calm, safety, and a renewed sense of life.

“Stone’s Throw Yoga has been life changing! They cater for everyone with different types of yoga from yin to vinyasa and everything in between in their lovely shala. They also have lots of different time slots which is great, as a shift worker, there's generally a practice I can attend. There are also a variety of awesome yoga instructors to choose from and they are all passionate yogis and trauma informed. They seem so intuitive to what I need out of my practice. I cannot sing their praises enough. The practice of yoga has also improved my quality of life beyond words. I tried almost every type of therapy for the last 20 years to deal with complex PTSD with limited improvement but 15 months of yoga has been positively life changing. Oh, and their online booking system is also so easy to use.” ~Jarrod

We always stay in our lane as yoga facilitators (we’re not therapists or clinicians), but that doesn’t mean yoga can’t deeply support mental and emotional wellbeing.

At Stone’s Throw Yoga, we believe that food and movement are both acts of nourishment, not currencies to be traded against each other. Your practice on the mat is never about “earning” or “burning off” what you eat - it’s about exploring how your body feels, and honouring its needs in the moment.

Food is joy, comfort, culture, and yes - sometimes cake at 10am because why not?! 🎂 Movement is expression, grounding, release, and strength. They don’t cancel each other out, they add value to one another.

At Stone’s Throw Yoga we celebrate all bodies for how they feel and what they allow us to experience - not how they look in leggings ❤

At Stone’s Throw, we see yoga as an incredibly powerful tool to support mental health. In a world that often asks us to go faster, achieve more, and carry endless responsibilities - stepping onto your mat becomes an act of reclaiming space for yourself.

The practice of yoga engages the nervous system in ways that ease stress and invite calm. Steady shapes, mindful sequencing, and long, nourishing rests help release tension from the body - while meditation and breathwork create clarity and focus. Over time these practices help to strengthen your ability to respond to life’s challenges with more balance, compassion, and resilience.

When anxiety rises, yoga offers grounding. When the mind feels scattered, it becomes an anchor. When life feels heavy, it reminds you that rest is not only allowed, but essential…

Not to mention that yoga gives us a community - a reminder that you don’t have to carry everything alone ❤

There’s something powerful about practicing yoga in a room full of others. Even if you’ve never spoken to the person on the mat beside you, the simple act of moving and breathing together creates an invisible thread of connection.

The rhythm of collective breath steadies the nervous system, softens the mind, and reminds us that we are not moving through life alone. What feels heavy on our own mat can feel lighter when shared in our community.

Group practice is less about synchronising perfectly and more about the energy that builds when individuals gather with a shared intention. In those moments of shared stillness, laughter, or release the room itself becomes the teacher.

This is the magic of yoga in community: the reminder that while our practice is deeply personal, it is also profoundly collective ❤

The home of yoga in Mundaring

Stone’s Throw Yoga was imagined and created by Mel and John Bishop, a husband and wife working together to build a community and bring yoga to the Perth Hills.

Our building is almost one hundred years old; built by the Freemasons, and reimagined into the perfect space for relaxation, movement, disconnecting from your busy life and reconnecting with those around you.

Please, make yourself at home, have a look around, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to send us a message. 🙏
