[HEALTH ALERT]

SA Health has been notified of a case of measles in a child who was exposed overseas.

Measles is a serious and highly contagious infectious disease.

Anyone who isn’t fully immunised, and particularly those who were in the locations at the times listed, should be alert for symptoms over the next few weeks and see a doctor if they become ill.

Symptoms of measles start with fever, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes, followed by a blotchy rash which usually begins on the head and then spreads down the body.

If you believe you have measles symptoms, contact your doctor before you visit so precautions can be taken to avoid spreading the infection to others.

We’re moving to Bulk Billing — From 1 November 2025

We’re pleased to share that Murray Bridge Medical Centre has submitted an Expression of Interest to the Australian Government to become a fully bulk-billing practice, in line with the Strengthening Medicare initiative.

From 1 November 2025, we will transition to bulk billing for “standard GP visits” for all patients with a current and up-to-date Medicare card — including face-to-face & phone visits.

Please note:
Some services are not covered under this Medicare initiative and will continue to attract private fees. These include (but are not limited to):
• Minor surgical procedures
• Medicals (e.g. pre-employment, driver’s licence, insurance)
• Sutures, wound care, and other treatment room procedures
• Paperwork or reports not funded by Medicare

Our team will let you know if any out-of-pocket fees apply before your appointment.

A note on sustainability
As a small community practice, we remain at the mercy of government Medicare rebates, keeping pace with the ongoing cost of running a healthcare business. While we’re proud to support this initiative and make care more accessible, we may need to review this model in the future if it becomes financially unsustainable.

We understand that these billing changes can be confusing, and we’re here to help. Our team will do their best to explain any fees, and we’ll keep our posts and updates as clear as possible for ease of understanding.

Sam delivers client-centred, evidence-based care with a holistic approach, tailored to individual needs and readiness for change. He is known for strong communication, community-building, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams - particularly in a workplace & return to work context.

The Murray Bridge Day and Night Surgery is pleased to welcome Dr Jose Valerio to its team, bringing with him an ongoing focus on improving men’s health in the local community.

Dr Valerio will commence consulting on Monday, 21st July and will provide care exclusively to male patients (assigned male at birth), in line with his current medical registration and ongoing area of interest.

With a strong awareness of preventive care and early intervention, Dr Valerio is committed to supporting men in taking charge of their physical and mental well-being. His services will include general men’s health checks, cardiovascular risk management, mental health support, and lifestyle advice.

Practice Manager Wendy Ziersch said the appointment comes in response to a growing need for tailored men’s health services.

"We know men are often less likely to seek medical care until a problem becomes urgent. Dr Valerio’s arrival allows our clinic to offer targeted, supportive, and confidential care that encourages men to be proactive about their health."

Dr Valerio said he is looking forward to continuing to build a rapport with patients and helping them live healthier lives.

“I’m passionate about Men’s Health and look forward to offering dedicated care in an environment where men feel comfortable discussing their health needs.”
