Some of us enjoyed a 20km bicycle ride to Uki at the foot of Mt Warning this morning. Almost half the distance was on the wonderful new Northern Rivers Rail Trail. All accessible close to Queen Street Medical Queen Street Medical Centre

Dr Bob is off sick short term and is expecting to return to Queen Street on Tuesday 28/2/23 whether face to face or by Telehealth.

We apologise for cancellations last week and we are trying to manage urgent cases so that they are addressed in a timely manner. Staff will be attempting to contact all with appointments on Monday 27/2 to defer them or make other arrangements.

If you need urgent attention and can’t get an appointment at Queen Street, please try to contact staff again - cancellations happen and priorities change. One of our lovely nurses may be able to help.

On 12th September 2022 we are improving our medical record and administration systems so that we can provide better care. We are migrating to Best Practice software. This conversion has been refined by experience, and every detail has been highly scrutinised, however we ask that you have patience if the first week causes any hiccoughs.

We welcome your comments with the experience from 12th September if we can learn from you and reach the high expections that we have.

I’m adding a photo from my bike ride this morning in the misty rain through Eungella, only 10km from Queen Street Medical Centre. I thought the photo is symbolic, the riders travelling through the rainbow, like QSMC is travelling to better pastures.

And Dr Betty Marks was a fixture at QSMC

Who remembers Dr Betty?

Dr Betty Marks OAM was one of Murwillumbah’s most loved medical professionals, working as a GP until she was 90 years old, a career spanning 66 years. Dr Betty moved to Murwillumbah in 1954 and treated local patients and families over four generations, delivered over 1000 babies, gave countless anaesthetics, attended emergencies, and performed house calls. Upon retirement Betty featured in television news and newspapers, was honoured with the NSW Premier’s Award for service to the community, received a congratulatory message from former Prime Minister Tony Abbott and was formally acknowledged in Parliament the following day.
Dr Betty's family kindly donated some of her things to the Museum after she passed.
Come and see them on display, the exhibition is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10-4pm.
