Wise words from my fellow ‘Nurturing the New Mother’ workshop host
How long is postpartum? A question I often get asked. Is it the first 7 days, first 6 weeks, first few months, first year? Honestly, this journey is very individualized and varies in relation to factors such as pre conception, birth, pregnancy, gap between children or baby loss, support, breast feeding and more, but it most definitely goes beyond the first 6 weeks. While hosting postpartum workshops “Nurturing The New Mother” with (can’t wait for 2022 to have those back 🤞 ) and co authoring Nourishing Those Who Nurture] with I’m not free of the crashes experienced in postpartum. I still have moments, days and sometimes weeks of exhaustion and depletion. I have all the tools, but I still fall here at times. Being a Mother in the modern day world is big. The load of Motherhood doesn’t just encompass the children, it generally includes managing the household, some sort of work/financial input and then of course their is the healthy eating food prep, the social interactions/engagements for our children and us, the pressure to look a certain way and to have our household looking the same. Some weeks I feel like super woman, managing it all with grace and ease and others it comes crashing down, I’m exhausted, I’m less available for my family, my businesses are getting less attention . These are the times that I pause, l step back, I practice saying NO, I practice nourishing deeper Nourishing Those Who Nurture] , I call more on my support network and I book in delicious health therapies . I preach the important of support because I’ve been there, because I understand just how exhausting it can be at times and how all the tools we provide you with in our workshops and book are crucial to this phase. There may not be space for facials and massages, but there’s always space to nourish deeper, go slower and breathe fuller, these are forms of self love that we simply can’t do without. Posptartum is a phase of refinement so that you Mumma feel like the best version of yourself X
