There is no reason to have a phone in your bedroom at night and there is absolutely no reason to expect that an adolescent is going to have the self-control to make that decision on their own. This is an easy rule that is appropriate no matter what your child’s temperament is. It’s so unusual that something could be one size fits all, but this one I think counts as good for everybody. This week’s episode of Raising Good Humans Podcast we are talking about 7 seven limits to set before you get a smart phone for your young person. These are also good conversations to have even if you already have given them a smart smartphone!

I know it can feel like you're being selfish sometimes when you put yourself first, but I can assure you that taking care of yourself is not selfish. It's self-leadership. It's being responsible for meeting your own needs.
No one else can do this for you, you're the only one you've got. You should not have to suffer so that you can take care of others. Is there room for more balance?
This is especially true for those in caring and helping roles. It goes without saying that we need to meet our own needs if we want to do what we do in the longer term.
In order to do this, we need to work on our 'self-attunement'. Watch this space for more on this topic.

Setting boundaries and respecting your own needs doesn't need to be done in big, loud statements. You can do it quietly and in small ways, especially when you're just starting out.
You can take small actions that honour your needs and help you to feel a little more connected to yourself and perhaps a little bit more energised.
It is never too late to start taking small moments out of the day that are just for you
