𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 | We want to hear from you.

At Alpine Health, we believe in a strong community of care — especially for those impacted by su***de. Whether you have lived experience, have supported someone through loss, or work with a community organisation, your voice matters.

We’re inviting community members and organisations to take part in a Postvention Planning Workshop to help shape a local postvention plan for the Alpine Shire.

📅 Tuesday 24 February 2026
🕚 11.00am – 1.30pm
📍 The Pavilion, Pioneer Park Reserve, Bright
🥪 Light lunch provided

A postvention plan helps guide how a community responds after a death by su***de — supporting people who are bereaved and helping to reduce the risk of further harm.

If you have lived experience, we especially welcome your participation. Your insight and perspective are deeply valued, and this workshop offers a safe, respectful space to contribute.

👉 Register here: https://bit.ly/PostventionPlanningWorkshop

Together, we can support one another and make a meaningful difference in our community.

With very hot days ahead, take simple steps to protect yourself and others:

💧 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹 & 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱
Use air-conditioning or a fan, wear light clothing, take cool showers, and drink water regularly — even before you feel thirsty. If home isn’t cool, visit air-conditioned places like libraries, pools or your local Neighborhood Centre.

👋 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀
Look out for older people (65+), babies and young children, pregnant women, people with health conditions, and anyone who may be isolated.

🕒 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱
Schedule activities for cooler parts of the day and keep an eye on the weather forecast.

🚗 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹
Never leave children, adults or pets in a parked car — even for a short time.

HEAT HEALTH | We’re expecting several very hot days ahead and increased fire danger forecast across our region over the next week.

During the last period of hot weather, we saw an increase in people presenting to urgent care with heat-related illness — a timely reminder to take extra care in the days ahead.

If you can’t keep cool at home, plan ahead and think about safe places to cool down, such as public swimming pools or air-conditioned spaces like your local library or Neighborhood Centre.

When to seek help:
➡️ Get medical advice if you or someone else experiences dizziness, nausea, headache, confusion, excessive tiredness, or stops sweating
➡️ Go to the Urgent Care Centres at Bright, Myrtleford, Mt Beauty Hospitals
➡️ Call Nurse-on-Call 1300 60 60 24 for 24/7 health advice
➡️ In an emergency, always call 000

Please check in on older people, children and anyone with health conditions, drink plenty of water, and stay informed via Vic Emergency.

BUSHFIRE SUPPORT | You’re not alone 💚 Bushfires can create a range of environmental health concerns beyond the immediate damage — not just smoke and ash, but impacts on food safety, drinking water, extreme heat, communicable diseases, radiation safety, and longer-term climate-related health risks. These challenges can also affect our mental and emotional wellbeing long after the fire has passed.

If you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn, support is available close to home.

Despite the smoke and heat, our wonderful Gardening Girls at Mount Beauty have been busy supporting bushfire preparedness at the hospital. Over the past two weeks, they’ve removed dry and dead grasses from the gardens and provided extra watering to help reduce fire risk across the site.

A huge thank you to Sue, Marie, Maureen and Pauline for your care, commitment and hard work — it truly makes a difference.
